Council Minutes of 2-5-74 -8- <br />Mr. Giesser referred to car wash at Bailey Rd. and Corals Rd+ All windows are <br />broken and it is his opinion that this is a clear hazard to spool children <br />utalking by. Requested Building ~3epartment to have owners board up windows and <br />if this cannot be done inquired if the City could do it. Mayor Christmas stated <br />Building Dept. can do it. Mr. Limpert suggested painting color aesthetically. <br />President O'Neill referred matter to Legislation Conmaittee. <br />Mxs. Saringer referred to Ord. No. 74-15 and stated she feels she has the right <br />to maintain the lawsuit because this involves 3540 people. <br />Mrs. Sharpe discussed receiving many calls from residents living on Bailey Rd. <br />regarding abandoned Detroit Auto Car Wash. She visited car wash to investigate <br />conditions and found following: l) building has been vandalized; large pieces <br />of broken glass in axes which causes a safety problem; one portion of building <br />at one time had been boarded up but boards are now lying on ground - all one hats <br />to do is walk into building; building is exposed to el~mts and vandals; rear <br />of building contains many rubbish contsiners all full of rubbish; large brush <br />rollers lying on ground previously used in auto wash - this 4s a health as well <br />as a safety hazard; area had been surrounded by chain link fence ~d vinyl type <br />fence but panels have been ripped off sad chain. link fence is broken; no covering <br />to entrance at rear of auto wash Mich causes. a safety problem. Residents are <br />concerned because of many children who gait at corner of Bailey Rd. far school <br />bus. There have been apparently iacde~ts of children getting hurt from. broken <br />glass lying around. Abandoned building is not only an eyesore but is a safety <br />and health hazard. Mrs. Sharpe requestsd Building Commissioner Gundy to investi- <br />gate and contact owners of the px~perty, who are owners of the Bee Clean Auto <br />Wash, and compel them to clean up property immediately. If request is not met <br />by owners within one week, Mrs. Sharpe is requesting Mr. Gandy to take whatever <br />steps are necessary to insure the satfety and health of the residents ante children. <br />Mrs. Sharpe requested Mr. Gandy report back to Mrs. Sharpe of his progress and <br />action. <br />Mrs. Sharpe requested legislation regarding upkeep of abandoned, closed cotrcial <br />businesses and private residential heroes to make it mandatory for the owners of <br />these properties to maintain the properties ~til- such tip as they are sold or <br />rented to new owners. <br />Mr. Wilamosky referred to chuck holes on 1,orain Rd. and discussed hazardous <br />condition. Zt was pointed out that a few years ago the State was requested to <br />resurface Lorain Rd. Discussion continued. <br />Mr. Wilamosky requested legislation requesting the State to resurface Lorain Road. <br />Mr. Wilamsoky referred to water problem on McKenzie Road and discussed.same with <br />Asst. City Engineer Mr. McDermott. Mr. McDermott said this is a current project; <br />additional easements are needed., 'Time table was discussed, also equipat going <br />in on frozen ground. <br />Mrs. Saringer referred to project on Brendan Lane - met with people last Summer <br />regarding the swale and suggested now with frozen ground a crew could check into <br />this project before Spring. <br />President O'Neill inquired of Mayor Christman if odor from the Treatment Plant <br />has been taken care of. Mayor stated that it has and explained same. <br />
