Council Minutes of 9-2-75 -2-
was checked out. Service Y~pt. and ~ngiaeeering Dept. are sti11 checking out
various yard and street drainage ccreaplaiats. On Aug~t 26th another severe
storm hit this area. Ag~fn pretty much the same ce:aditia~ns existed on Sunday;
however this was afore general over ~ entire City, corded about T7 coe~glaints
that day: 2b is i~ard 1, 21 is herd 2, $ 1~t Waret 3 sad 22 !aa ~iard 4. Service
Dept. tried to check out each b t c~mmpla~tt. Various yard asu! stranet drainage
coa~laints wars added to oaer list aaet ars still in process. During this period
recorded i. 75 inches of rainfall. We harre all seems, heard a~ reed about the
conditions in neighboring suburbs stul th ut the County. T#tiaiut we were
forttanate in the coa4arable ariniapeae amcwmt of daaaege which was experf.estecsd. Wishes
to thank all those aho res and Nho worked long furs before: the danger sub-
sided and conditions were re3svacl, or ~atrally relieved thamsslves. We are
convinced that the al actie~mt, heat is reepairs of sanitary sealers, had
a decided impact to the nor t area of the City. Previously, with rains such
as these we would have had ar~sch amore severe flooding. We have probably. sent
close to 1/2 million dol].acs sinew 197Q in modifications to lift~statc~ns, repairs
to sewer lines, TV inspecting.. and grouting. Our roses hours worked shows a decided
decrease over the last year and a half or so. Mr. Kudukie' office called last
week and asked what we estian-ted our stow damage might be. Taking into account
an inspection to. ~a~aers, culverts and petssibly home s we gave a rougte estimate
of $30~,fl00. This was nee:essary for him to coa~ils a coutety-aide estimate for
damages to submit to the State of EBefo.
2) Bids were taken todeey for tso Ieaf collectors and four truck containers -which
ranged from about $12,1340, to $21,t1~. Bids will be aealysed for confor-sance to
specifications, sad a recc~m^aadatie~n made to the Board of Control.
3) regv~est.: 1 to pass legialetiene ~ accepting the Meneor of Understanding
bn emargeacy Might. Ccxencil has had copies of the Meseorandum and copies of
changes to the Memorandum.
City Engineer Childs reported following; I) managed to get Walter Eci. paved in
betweese rain showers sad it is his ~ersteutding that today the put crushed stones
on the berms to bring the hsrees mp to the level of the new pa t;
2) have been rained oat entirely in eff+sacts to resurface Butter~tt Ridge ltd.
Contractor had pserrionsly a a cair~ta~sttt to begin last I~a-da~- but because of
all of the rain diet not aeedce it. In c;oafe~reaee~ phone cal]. tod+ty have received
a tentative cerl.fst for stsrtia~ Bternut Ridgy R,d. resurfacing on Seapteaber
ISth and they estifeete 4 to 5 s of we-s~.
Law Director Gateau staged t3at he and I+iambers of Council have previously received
a letter concerning soave cea~enta made by Lew Director Gateau sin &-~r-7S ~:tle. respect to
Barclay Square litigation a~ Leer Director Gateau feels that ~ should reepoa~i
to that letter. Law Director Garasu stetted that he would like to say initially
here that his response is sot to be a political platform or anything of that
nature but the forum of this respe wa~e chosen by the individual wha sent the
letter and the following statear~t is one that Lear Director Gateau lames prepared
and wi11 give to Council. Law Director Gateau read his report to Ccxutcil. Report
is on file in Council Office.
Mrs. Saringer, Chairman Emrironarattal Caatrol Coasai.tte!e and Long Range Pruning
Committee, reported following: Due to the ab~datsce of rainfall we have experienced
this past week and the flaaded bents the people in the northeast sact.an of
the Cfty eupe:rie~ced, felt it etacasary to call an earergeacy mnetiag on Sept. 1st.
Mrs. Saringer realises the City has +rrgve~ extensive sanitary sewer repair wank;
however, it was quite evident that this has not alleviated the problems entirely.
__ ~..~
