w <br />Council Minutes of 9-2-75 -3- <br />People cannot live in fear every tisse there is a dowctpour. Storm water is one thing; <br />but sanitary back-up is another. We are ant a farm coteturnity nay long. We are <br />paying the highest taxes ixt the western suburbs. It 'wdues us wonder if our sewer <br />system was designed adaQuately, lie detest raw sewerage backing up in basements <br />and we detest raw sewerage being d into our stone systears; hcarever, is an <br />emergency this is what is being done. We aettt a phm of action irately, so <br />that this problem can be s~rrected. 'fb+e (tree >aetde a list of rec. tsnas <br />that will be acted on i>ms>restiately: l) A list of ail los,aticnts of illegal <br />sewer connections and leaks and a pranaa far~latad inertdately that would resolve <br />the existing problem, including saxtlce taasting the areas that have not been ckaie; <br />2} want to kaaw when remainder of t1~ streets that are in need of sanitary sewer <br />excavations will be completed; <br />3)look into the feasibility of municipal storm retention reservoirs in the problem <br />areas; <br />4) a sound and realistic program of cluing and regrading the storm ditches in <br />the City; <br />5) is the auxiliary pump used at LeBern Lift Station a substitute for the 3rd pump? <br />6) want to know when the 9rd pint at the LeBera Lift Station will be operating so <br />we do not have to pump sewerage into the creek; <br />7) want some measures taken after a rain to clean up these ditches that sanitary <br />water is being puatped into; <br />8) It was also the Committee's opni~t tbat a joint csao~ittee of Bnvironmrtntal <br />and Streets & Drainage work together to see that the above rec tioas are <br />carried out and it is hoped that we can act now- and get this system tight so our <br />people will not experience this in the future mad we won't have to violate our <br />own ordinance. <br />If this program fails to alleviate the problem rhea perhaps we will have to under- <br />take an indeipandent sewer stir to sae if our sewers are adequate for this area. <br />If it is all right with Mr. Gog~in would lime to set a meeting date for the <br />combined committees on September 15th, 8:00 P.M. <br />Mr. Goggln, Chairman Building, Zoning & Developsmnt Committee sad Streets b <br />Drainage Committee, reported following: 1) Streets & Drainage Cstmm9.ttee met on <br />August 27, 1975: Committee agreed to aid t?rd. No. 75-49 to ask the State of <br />Ohio to specifically repair both curb lanes of Lorain Rd. from Barton Rd. to <br />Porter Rd; <br />2) received an application for partiatistct in the HUD City Developateat <br />Block Grant which the Cctasti.ttee r uttering into. If our City receives <br />a grant it would be used for the draias~ge situations which are listed sal the <br />legislation 75-199 on agenda this evening. xttis application must be in HUD's <br />hands by September 30, 1975; <br />3) Public Works Commissioner Weldon was also at the meeting and gave Canmittee <br />an update on the effects of the recestt rainsta~rms. Many of the points twat Mr4. <br />Beringer mentioned in her gnvirttal report were also listed that ev~a$. <br />Mr. Goggin stated if it is agreeable with the rest of the Committee, he will <br />be happy to :meet with her Cosatittee. <br />The Building Zoning & Devreloptseat Ccn~atittee also met on Augtm-t 27, 1$75, acrd <br />reviewed the following: 1) r~uest from Mr. Doty to subdivide his land and <br />Committee has no objections and sates 3.s on first reading; <br />2) req»st fret Canterburry ~ioctds Bia~ters Assn. to erect a sign for their <br />subdivision. Sign would be erected on Byr~t Dr. just east of Canterbury Rd. <br />Committee has no objections. <br /> <br />
