Will be doing that in the <br />weeks ahead. <br />President O'Neill reported following: 1} at invitation of Charles Mosley, Vice <br />President, East Cleveland City Commission, attended a meeting in East Clevel~s~d <br />on February 8, 1975, regarding hand gun control. During the three and one-half <br />hour session on head gun control seminar were addressed by various xesource <br />people: pxosecutors, police, coroner's office and Chairman Gun Control Federation. <br />Sample ordinances were provided in addition to fortas utilised by the City of East <br />Cleveland in their procedure. East Cleveland has ordinance that was enacted in <br />1969 which they are proud of - they feel considerable improvement has hen made <br />as a result of that paxticular piece of legislation. They did not try to really <br />formulate legislation. All they asked for was participation of the various <br />communities to start the ball rolling in sotwe regard to come up with hand gun <br />control. Statistics were given. re fomeides. tfhat they wanted w,r~ ':o filly to come <br />up with a model giece of Iegislatian not only in the City of North Olmsted but in <br />all communities - try to branch out beyond Cuyahoga County. It is President O'Neiil's <br />personal opinion that it is not wing to resolve anything until it is done nationally; <br />where people are required to register,- similar to purchase of an automobile - <br />registratiaa and license to operate it. Roes not think that 5portsmans Group <br />would resent this because they are intax~sted in activities with guns as a spoxt <br />and they want to see that it is kept up. President O'Neill stated he would appreciate <br />no further legislation other that what is on agenda tonight until all facets for <br />and against are listened to by all members of this legislative body. A discussion <br />ensued by some members of Council; Mr. Giesser feels North Olmsted ought to <br />consider their own gun cantxol legislation law irrespective of this joint effort <br />stating he 'has seen joint efforts work before and they nevex ware up with anything; <br />or they come out with it two years fiance. Feels we should establish one for our <br />City and have it working; and if they come out with a regional one to be established <br />we can amend ours. Mr, West discussed registered and unregister~ct guns and restric- <br />tion of purchase, etc. Mr. Wila~sky disc€M-sed requirets of Federal on <br />purchase of guns and amunition. Mrs. Sar3.reger commented she had received a call <br />from a member of Sportsman Club and it is their desire to meet with Council. Mr. <br />Limpert gave his views -feels gun control is not going to solve problem - fee~.s <br />emphasis should be put on penalty for violating the law. Discussion continued. <br />Meeting will be set up with Sportsman Club. <br />Mrs. Beringer, Chairman Environmental Control Committee and Long Range Planning <br />Committee, reported following: 1) Committee meeting held on 8ebt'z~ary 10th and <br />Committee went over the rough draft of legislation xegulating and establishing <br />refuse collection. Some corrections were made and legislation is on ag~cnda tonight; <br />2) discussed questionnaire that was sent out in regard to the Environmental Impact <br />Assessment for proposed landing a:cea developments at Hopkins ,Airport. It was <br />decided that each one individually would indicate their feelings and s+ssld questionnaire <br />to the Mayor. The Committee would art make a recommendation as a Whole. Mrs. <br />Saringer asked the Mayor what the majority of feelings were on this issue and <br />what answer he sent to NOACA. Mayor Christman stated the majority a no comment; <br />and he sent na answer. Mayor did receive caam~ents from Mr. Wilam~osky in opposition <br />to it; and Mrs. Saringer's in the feeling that we should cooperate with other <br />cities; <br />3}discussed the situation at the Treatment Plant sad Committee was advised that <br />another meeting would be set up with Mr. Eancler, Attorney for people on Mastick P.c~, <br />,.. ,,_,.. ~ , ,A.~.,~,e,~-. <br />
