ti_ ~,
Clt#~ of ~.ar#.~ ~Ims#E~
DHIO 44D70
RICHARD W. KOHARIK
54FETV DIRECTOR
REPORT TO COUNCIL
RHONE: 777-ROOD
1) The Ohio Parks and Recreation Association has chosen the North Olmsted
Recreation Complex as The Most Outstanding Recreation Facility in the
State of Ohio. The City will receive The Outstanding Recreation Facility
Award at the Ohio Parks and Recreation Association Convention which will
be held in Dayton, Ohio on November 18th.
A team of judges representing the 1977 Awards Committee viewed the Recre-
ation Complex early in October. One judge said, "The North Olmsted
Recreation Complex is The Most Outstanding Recreation Facility in the
State of Ohio." The judging was based on architectural design, prop.rams,
stories written about the Recreation Complex, and an on-sight inspection
of the facility. The team of judges traveled to a number of recreation
facilities around the State.
2) Pumpkin Patrol. 0 v e r the past weekend the Police Department scheduled
a task force during the evening hours in an effort to deter vandalism
on this historically busy weekend. The effort was quite successful.
Evidence being that this City had a very low amount of vandalism as
compared to other suburbs in the West Shore area.
3) The Board of Control has met and awarded a contract to Malleen Ford to
provide four new police cars. The bidding process was greatly hindered
because of the automobile manfacturers inability to provide accurate
price and delivery information until early this month. The automobile
manufacturers claimed that the Environmental Protection Agency caused
the delay in certification of new cars. The automobiles contracted for,
will be smaller in size and will have less power than the automobiles the
City has purchased previously.
We will continue to ~s~,ly..ze the present automobile market in an attempt
to find automobiles that meet the necessary criteria for Police work.
4) As requested by Council a survey was taken at the area of Burns and
Southern Avenue. The traffic count was taken beginning lq,/26 at 3:30
p.m. until 10/31 at 12 noon. The total traffic count for this time only
was 558 cars. It is recommended by the Police Department that no stop
sign be placed in this area because the area does not meet the criteria
stated in the Uniform Traffic Control Manual. It is recommended t~-at we
place a right turn sign (W-13) as an advisory of the turn.
