The money will be
used for portable Bandy Talkies for our Police Departunt. The Randy Talkie
was demonstrated before Council Meeting. Is sure that this will enable our
Police Department to communicate a lot quicker ~d should make the response time
a little better;
2) for the past two weeks have been testing a poll. of known oasts of the Recreation
Complex. This is being done by trained interviewers. Mr. Koharik feels that by
using this method we will get a valid ~slyas of the type of people Mfio are using
the Complex. In turn, with this infor~-tion, a c~aiga can be desig~l to promote
greater usage. Information from this sur~y should be available in about threw weeks;
3) would like to hold the first meeting of the Advisory Com~aittee to the Complex
on July 27th, and ask that the Members of Council and the Coaasszity pride
recommendations for membership to Mr. Koharik as soap as possible so that he can
get meeting notices out to them.
Mrs. Beringer, Chairman Streets & Drainage Committee, reported: Committee Meeting
was held June 27th with Finance Committee, and discussed Roes. Mo. 77131 trbich is
on first reading tonight. This is a resolution authorizing the Service Director to
advertise for bids for the repair of various concrete streets located in the City.
Committee received a list of concrete rapiscemsnte from the Service Director. The
funds remaining in the Repair by Contract will be used plus a~litiem<al monies
transferred from the bus line for a total of about $24,f1O0 for these repairs. Due
to insufficient time and the emerges-cy of not delaying this legislation t~ Commi.ttee
was in agreement not to check out the streets and try to comma up with a priority
list but they would leave it up to the discretion of the Service Director; and
repair the ones that are in the worst conditions. The total cost for all that is
needed for these repairs was $33,150. Although we are unable to do all of the work
this year we will be able to get a cansi~rable amount done and possibly finish
next year. Will ask for suspension of the rule requiring three separate readings
because of the necessity to proceed with the repair project so that it may be
completed during the good weather. Mr. Meaty asked why did the Committee single
out concrete streets. Mrs. Beringer stated she does not thick the Committee singled
them out - there are certain streets that are paved with concrete that are in a
state of disrepair and we had the money to repair by contract which Co~emittee
decided to use in that area. Our other street repair program is well under way.
dir. Wilamosky commented that in the last couple of year the City has attempted
to correct roadway problems on concrete streets by cutting various sections out
that requires repair and replacing it with concrete. We found that it may be a
little more expensive initially for the repair but in the long run we will not have
to come back every year and replace asphalt to patch these concrete streets. Mr.
Wilamosky asked Service Director Caster if his department intends to do any of the
actual repair on concrete streets. Service Director Caster stated no - is not set
up to do concrete repair work of that magnitude.
Mr. Beaty, Chairman Transportation Committee, reported that Ord. Nos. 77-132 and 133
will be placed on first reading tonight and next meeting will be asking for
suspension of rule requiring three separate readings. If Council has any questions
please read these over within the next two weeks. These are pay ram for the bus
line employees which is in accordance with our Agreement with RTA which is due
August 1st.
