The.-_Committee will ~et~with Mr.
Caster, Mr. Weldon and Mr. Childs at neat Streets & Drainage ~om~i.r.riw ~to be held
June 27, 1977, 8:00 P.M., Ci::y Hall. At that time would like a list of the concrete
streets that need repairs and an estimate of cost. The Committee reco~esus to
use the funds from "Repair by Contract" to repair these streets this Sumer. Time
is of the essence if we are to advertise for bids. Committee would also like to
see some sealing of the concrete streets where it is necessary in order to protect
them from further deterioration;
4) the Clague Rd. culvert has not base started. Funds for this project are from
the Community Development I;lock Grant aranies. We are awaiting Westla~Ce approval on
the project: They are awaiting the results of a study that wan taken. to determine
if this project would be detrimental to their drainage;
5) Mr. Weldon was asked to check if the berm at Clague and Lorain Rds. could be
filled in to allow a right turn on red at that intersection easier;
6) Committee approved the eaase®ent far the storm sewers on the easterly aide of
S.R. 252 relocated. Legislation is on first reading;
7) in regards to tree trimming, lira. Saringer has received notice from the Service
Director that the City is attempting to get into a maintenance program of tree lawn
trees using summer help. Mrs. Beringer has received se~ral ccm~plaints from the
Oxford Ovals regarding tree lawn trees becoming a safety hazard because they are
low hanging;
8) Committee reviewed Ord. Pkf. 77-47 and approved same; legislation is on second
reading;
9) requested legislation to advertise for bids for certain concrete street repairs.
In absence of Mr. Beaty, Chairman Transportation Committee, Mr. West reported
Committee met to discuss the cutbacks that RTA had sent out to us without any
discussion at all. .Committee feels very strongly in general that it is not
appropriate to cut back services except in the case of the school runs and those
runs that obviously do not haul anybody in the summertime. But RTA did cut back
on some of the other runs and Committee agreed we would give RTA a month; in the
meantime, check ourselves and find out which runs really should not have been
cut back and go back to RTA sad the RTA has givstus this opportunity. Mr. West
stated from personal experience it has made the standing time a lot longer and this
is not satisfactory as far as ha is concarnsd: that is the surest way to drive
people off of the buses: ae long as theta is a demand for bus service and people
are using it we ought to continue the service even though there is a dip: Mr.
West gave a comparison with respect to the number of trips we used to cut back and
the number of trips that RTA has cut back which is over three times. Feels this
is too many; we want to gat our facts ready and go down and see if we can't do
something; feels our objective should be to encourage the use of the transportation,
not discourage it. President Li~ert, Mr. Fairfield and Mr. West discussed the
subject, as well as the contract ae have with RTA wherein there would be no cutbacks
and even probably additions: Mr. Fairfield discussed our contract renewal. Mayor
stated he is hopeful that we can get an extension of one year on that contract.
Discussion continued.
Mr. Boehmer, Chairman Intra Governmental Relations & Legislation Committee and
Public Safety, Health & Welfare Committee, reported Legislation Committee met
and discussed the appointment of Mr. Harry Malone, 23365 Stoneybrook Drive, to
the Civil Service Commission; replacing Mr. John Gxady whose term expires 12/3i/79.
