Mayor cos~ated part of the
problem with that is the basming in soma arses did cause hardships for awhile until
the detergent people actually developed a lower phosphate - differ~t types of
cleaners that provided about the a+awa effectw®ess. Mayor recalls Mrs. Beringer
initiating this back six years ago. Mr. Childs cose~ented that until the pcd'~lication
which the Mayor referred to that care o~et in Coetsusers Magasi~ last Decambe~r, he
felt that facts were not at head to give us the proper confidence level to enact
a ban on phosphate detergents: it is only after that gublicstion case out that
he felt we could raco®end a high phosphate detergent ban: have been collecting
all the data that is felt is Headed s~ maw all facts avaihible to Council to
consider this legislation: there are a lot of.facts pro sad con to this detergent
ban; have assembled most of the perti.~t facts on both sides and both the Mayor
and Mr. Childs feel that the facts add up in favor of the ban and we should go that
route.
Service Director Caster reported ha has submitted report to Finance Committee and
a report to the Streets & Drainage Committee which they had requested.
Law Director Gareau reported: 1} have recommended in the past and recently have
also rec ded to Council that Council take some official action authorising
the Law Department to take whatever legal steps are necessary to bring into
conformity various automobile agencies that have violated the Zoning Code. Yt is
his understanding that action of Gouacil will be forthcoming tonight on that;
2) in the past several weeks have discussed with the Board of Zoning Appeals and
also the members of the B.Z.&D. Coarnittee certain requested changes is the Zoning
Code and expect that those will be forthcoming also.
Mrs. Saringer, Chairman Streets ~ Drainage Committee, reported Co~mni.ttee met on
Saturday morning with residents of Clifford Drive to discuss the possibility of
repairing of the berm in con~nnction with the resurfacing. About l5 h ors
attended the meeting. The general response was favorable; however, did request
a list from the Service Dapt. in regard to the work that was discussed: to this
day have not received this list so that Mrs. Saringer could follow up with bar
plan and at this point feels that she is not going to call another cosaittee
meeting on the aub~ect: Mrs. Saringer stated she has tried to get to the people
and find out if theq would be agreeable: flays not received cooperates fral the
Administxation and therefore will say she thinks the resurfacing should proeaed
and it is up to the administration to take care of the drainage probla~s.
,~„~,~~s
