Affirmtive vote: Raaty, Boehsssr, Fairfield, Beringer,
Sharpe, West, Wilanosky. Motion carried.
7) Mrs. Sharpe scheduled a B.Z. ~ D. Committee Meeting for May 18, 1977, 7:15 P.M.,
city Rail.
Mr. West, Chairman Environmental Control Coamaittee, reported Committee net on
May 2, 1977, all Committee Members present, including the Administration, and
reviewed following:
1) xeviewed the sewage plant thru-put which had been plotted for us for the past
several years and would like to point out that in March of 1977 that the average
flow thru the glans was 8 million gallons, remembering that the plant capacity as
designed was 9 million gallons. We know that that was a wet month and there was
considerable amount of moisture in the ground and therefore some flowed thru but
thinks everyone should understand that there are tines for a whole month at any
rate that we come pretty close to the present capacity;
2) request by the Service Director to expend the amount of money that is in the
budget to make repairs to the sanitary sewer system. We have a t.v. truck setup
that goes through and determines where there are leaks sad the swell ones they
can repair right on the spot. Later on will request legislation authorising the
taking of bids and the expenditure of that amount for maintenance and repair of
the sanitary sewers;
Along that line the Service Director has agreed that he will submit to Committee
prier to the passage of this legislation the streets and the areas which are to
be repaired this year so all of Council will be so advised;
3) discussed smoke testing and have asked the Service Mrector to provide Committee
with a schedule for smoke testing by streets fox the coning Suaa~er;
4) discussed garbage trucks end as previously brought out, they are behind on
their pickups on sons of the weeks. Thera are two reasons: during the Spring
people tend to through out everything they have accumulated in the Wintertime ao
the trucks become overloaded; and the fact that we have older trucks at~l they
are broken down. Bids have bean received on trucks; have not decided c~afortunately
which is the lowest bid because of the complexities of the bids, etc., but Co~asaittee
strongly recommended that the Board of Control act on this as soon as passible so
that we can get the trucks as soon as possible;
5) discussed tree planting progxa~t: Spring came so early this year that they did
not expend all of the funds of $1,000. which was authorised; but in discussing
this with the Service Director he estimated that if we were to plant all of the
replacement trees that are needed next Fall he would need approximately $2,500.
Committee jointly with the Finance Committee has agreed to make every effort to
provide that money so that we can once and for all catch up with the replacement
