Council Minutes of 2-15-77 -2-
represent us in indigent cases. Presently we do it on a voluntary basis and the
Court is trying to shy away Pram that because it puts too moth of a burden on
attorneys when you have to handle that many cases and cb7 not get paid for it.
Short of that, if the figure comes back too high then might suggest that we use
our Regional Council of Governments and possibly find some swath+ad of hiring through
a cooperative agreement with all of the western communities - perhaps one person on
a part time basis.
Safety Director Carnahan reported: 1) are investigating the cost of a study to
determine the effects of no exit of I-480 atStearrae Rd. will have on traffic.
Mrs. Saringer, Chairman Streets & Drainage Committee, scheduled a Streets & Drainage
Gommittee Meeting on February 22, 1977, $:00 P.M., City Hall.
Mr. Beaty, Chairman Transportation Committee, had following comments: 1) the RTA
Board was meting today to discuss how they wanted to handle the extension of the
contract, and will be contacting the Mayor or Mr. Beaty within the next day or
two to arrange a meeting with them. They are also going to discuss the overloading
of some of the horning'buses. Mr. Beaty has received calls and Mrs. Saringer has
brought this up, so will be meeting with them sometime in the near future on these
items;
2) have a meeting planned with the drivers regarding same negotiations;
3) Committee has asked Safety Director Carnahan, which he reported out on, to
investigate the coat of getting a private firm to do a study on the effect it would
.have if we did away with the Stearns Rd. exit.
® Mrs. Saringer asked Mr. Beaty if he could glue her a more specific date regarding
the meeting with RTA Officials; also would like to see a meetiog held here in
North Olmsted so that the people could be in attendance. Mr. Fairfield stated
he has a petition fxoiu one of the residents of Devon Drive who circulated same;
aMd it was also written in the Plain Dealer and other newspapers complaining about
the service we have been getting in North Olmsted. Mr. Fairfield also referred
to the editorials in the Plain Dealer recently complaining about the service, etc.
Thinks a Public Hearing or having the people out hexe would be in order so the
people of RTA can be questioned by the residents of North Olmsted. Mr. Fairfield
gave petition to Mr. Beaty. Mr. Beaty hopes to be able to schedule a meeting
within the next two weeks.
Mr. Boehmer, Chairman Intra Governmental Relations & Legislation Committee and
Public Safety, Health & Welfare Cosaaittee, reported Committee met and discussed
recommendations by the Mayor fox appointments to the Architectural Review Board.
Mr. Boehmer moved for approval of appointment of Mr. Robert Parry, 27150 Butternut
Ridge Rd., to the Architectural Board of Review, seconded by Mr. West. Affirmative
vote: Beaty, Boehmer, Fa~iifield, Saringer, Sharpe, West, Wilamosky. Motion carried.
Mr. Boehmer moved for approval of appointment of Mr. Carl Petroski, 24712 Florence
Avenue, to the Architectural Board of Review, seconded by Mrs. Sharpe.
