Mayor realiaas .this is Couucl.~'s „~pgai~at;meut; <br />however, would like to go on record as recommending Mr. Mahoney. <br />Service Director Corrigan reported: 1) Over last two weeks the Service Department <br />has cogad with the avow situation. Service Director Corrigan relied oa the <br />expertise of the members of the Service Depattss~t and was edified by their per- <br />formance under very adverse cor~ditione which were escalated by certain equipment <br />deficiencies. These equipmse~t deficiencies wall be presented to the propex <br />Committee of Council for ev~tluatiQn seat consideration. Additionally, after <br />evaluating the equipment that has been on order delivery has not beep accepted <br />because the vendor has t-ot tset then specifications. Are in picocess of contacting <br />the. contractor and indicating the areas of deficiencies and hopefully something <br />can be worked out; <br />2) Departmental wise, are in process of upgrading through a tjaniag program <br />instituted by Service Director Corrigan, the various work classifications in <br />the Service Department so that in ~ emergency situation we have qualified <br />operators for various types end ranges of equipment which we have. This training <br />prograffi will not happen ove~raight but the. concept is being worked on. The <br />supervision within the Ssrviae Departwsat has been very cooperative in this area; <br />also the bargaining agent for the organised employees has beeen very cooperative <br />in doing anything to implement the proper training of e~loyeee of the Service <br />Department; <br />3) are also develop~.rg. with the Chief Mechanic a program of plaened maintenance <br />that involves proper logistics of knoa~tg s~cactly the coalition of the vehicle, <br />what repairs hays been made on it in the past and what repairs will be made on it <br />in the future based on replacing parts that have deteriorated, etc. As an example, <br />the Departt took delivery on two sa.t spreaders early this Fall that would <br />have brought up the effective nuueber of salt spreaders on the road but we dust, lost <br />one because literally the cab andr4of blew off of it as it was rotted out; attid this <br />goes to the proper storage area of aquip~snt. Most of the equipment is out in the <br />elemeaets Z4 haute a day a~i long range budget in the area of pray service <br />facilities is of prime rn; <br />4) Service Director 'ha+a met with various salaried and supervisory etrgtloyees in <br />divisions of Treatment klamt, Service wag!! and. Bus Liae and wage recommendations <br />wi11 be made to the appropriate Committees of Council prior to Next Co~cil meeting. <br />President Limpert discussed with Service Director Carrigan the sidewalk cleaner, <br />known as the bombadier, on Lorain . and gaestio~ted if there are plans for <br />extending that into some of the mein a~traats such as Colin and Claque where <br />sidewalks get heavy traffic Service Director Corrigan discussed same at length <br />explaining priorities in storm cc~ditions, manpo~rer limitations, etc. <br />Mrs. Petrigac comoreaded Service Director and Service Department in keeging Lorain <br />Rd. and main drives clear but the streets in her Ward that she had travelled many <br />were in very poor condition sad asked what she can tell her ce~e-tituants how the <br />condition will be alleviated. Service Director Corrigan dacrassed sale, explaining <br />there are going to continue to be str~aets in poor condition based upon certain <br />equigmaut lismtations and ma~posrer ~,im2.tations: budget-w~.se we cannot afford to <br />salt flue side streets -have to rely on plo~ng primarily excerpt in areas where <br />slick cot+~tiops exist and cited eagles: discussed partiou~,ar problems existing <br />on side streets, cul+-de-sacs, etc. <br />Mr. Logan asked Service Director if a study has been done regarding use of cinders as <br /> <br />
