A
resolution awarding an increase of 15 days sick day reimbursement to Chief
Marion Taylor, North Olmsted Police Department, Retired, and declaring an
emergency. Mr. Wilamosky moved for suspension of rule requiring three readings,
second by Mr. O'Grady, unanimously approved. Mr. Wilamosky moved for adoption,
second by Mr. O'Grady, unanimously approved. Resolution No. 85-65 adopted.
Under Old Business:
Mr. Tallon noted that back in the Fall of 1984, council had debated the 25 mile
per hour speed limit for Porter Road and committed to a traffic study in the
Spring of 1985. When will it be done? Mayor stated he would check with Safety
Director and respond. Mr. O'Grady advised that he had forwarded a request with
respect to Porter Road and Mr. Petre advised that the survey is now in progress.
Mr. Tallon asked again about the new locks and keys for City Hall; Mayor replied
the keys are on order.
Law Director Gareau stated the in response to Mrs. Saringer's earlier comment,
he had not been in attendance at the meeting dealing with the stun gun legislation
however he did attend a separate meeting and contrary to what Mrs. Saringer said,
this group concluded that the legislation in its present form was not really
appropriate because it was a prohibition rather than a regulation; also discussed
the fact that there is presently pending before the state legislature a bill dealing
with the control and use of stun guns, which, if passed, would moot any ordinance
that the city would pass because it would be a law of general circulation. There
are a number of things that need to be looked at and it was his impression that the
Safety Director and members of the Police Department are not 1007 in favor of this
legislation.
Under New Business:
Mrs. Saringer stated that she has been working with the Building Commissioner with
respect to buffer zones between residential and commercial properties and has legis-
lation from another city. Mrs. Petrigac invited Mrs. Saringer to attend the next
Ad Hoc Planning Committee meeting and give her input.
In answer to his question, Mr. Tallon was advised that the City of North Olmsted
would observe Memorial Day on Monday, May 27th.
Mr. Tallon scheduled a BZD Committee Meeting for Thursday, May 30th, at 7:30 P.M.
Mr. O'Grady scheduled a Safety Committee Meeting for Thursday, May 30th, at 7 P.M.,
and requested Safety Director and Building Commissioner to be in attendance to
discuss Ordinance Nos. 85-58 and 85-60.
President Boehmer announced that Memorial Day services would start at 8 o'clock
at City Hall on Monday; cemeteries will be visited right after the service - Coe
and Butternut Road Cemeteries; parade to the park will be at 10 A.M. Mrs. Saringer
stated that the elected officials should be included in the parade. President
Boehmer advised that Memorial Day observances were planned and executed by VFW
Post 7647 and they did not encourage political participation, preferring to keep it
non-political and strictly a memorial to their fallen comrades.
There being no further business, President Boehmer adjourned the Council Meeting
at 10:00 P.M.
F orence E.
