The AFSCME gentlemen put together a flyer and on their
own time delivered it throughout a big part of the. city; Chief Marsh, Chief VanKuren,
Tom Fabek, Tom Fattlar, Rick Noble, Betsy Jack, Bill Cunningham and the Mayor, using
their own personal time, finished the delivery on Monday. Many firemen and policemen
also stood outside the polls in uniform on Election Day. Was disappointed that the
tax levy liad not passed but was pleased that the charter amendment passed,
5) Congratulated Pat Bahas, Jim Boehmer and Ralph Bohlmann on their election to
council and looks forward to working with th em.
Law Director Gareau reported: 1) Had a pre-argument conference with Sixth Circuit
Court and the attorney for Luwanna Cooper regarding .all various aspects that needed
to be resolved before arguing the case.
2) All details of the settlement of the Crumbley Case have been resolved.
Finance Director Boyle reported: 1) Had .reported previously about bills in front
of Congress, pertaining to Social Security and Medicare, which would make it man-
datory to withhold and match Medicare payments from employees' pay as of January 1st,
1988. At present, City is matching it for new employees as of March 31, 1986. The
bill has not been passed as yet and the.way it stands in both houses right now, it
appears that their position has been reversed and the city will not have to deduct
or match Medicare payments. This will amount to a savings of about 1.4 or 1.5,
depending on where they place the rate next year, for the entire payroll.
.~
