MINUTES OF THE MEETING OF THE COUNCIL <br />OF THE CITY OF NORTH OLMSTED <br />JULY 21, 1987 <br />Present: President Janet Saringer, Councilmen Bohlmann, Lackey, McKay, <br />O'Grady, Rademaker, Wilamosky. <br />Also present: Mayor Yvonne Petrigac, Finance Director Edward Boyle, Clerk of <br />Council Florence Campbell. <br />Absent: Councilman Tallon. <br />Meeting was called to order by President Saringer at 8:10 P.M., in Council <br />Chambers, 5200 Dover Center Road. <br />Members of the audience were invited to join Members of Council in the Pledge <br />of Allegiance to the Flag. <br />Mayor Petrigac reported: 1) Presented a proclamation to Jamie Simoncic, <br />recognizing his receiving the highest honor in the Royal Rangers' Program: <br />the Gold Medal of Achievement, sponsored by the Assembly of God. <br />2) Met with the new General Manager of Cablevision, Riek Coplan, and voiced <br />some objections to changes made by Cablevisian as well as with their program <br />placement. Will be scheduling a Cable TV .Advisory Board Meeting within the <br />next few weeks. <br />3) Board of Control met and rejected bids on the trucks for the Waste Water <br />Treatment Plant since they can be purchased at a lower price from the State. <br />4) Has been interviewing for. the position of City Engineer. <br />5) Introduced North Olmsted's new Building Commissioner, David L. Conway. <br />6) Met with the County and McDonald and Company with regard to the sewer agreement <br />for Olmsted Township. After a few refinements have been made, will present the <br />contract to Council before signing. <br />7) Meeting was held with the Council of Governments and the Director of Web, <br />former North Olmsted Police Chief, Marion Taylor. Has applied for a grant for <br />coordination of investigation of drugs by local, state and federal agencies. <br />8) Discussed with Representative Mottl his sponsoring legislation in support of <br />the City's adding a 5~ tax onto the sale of lottery tickets; he suggested a <br />pari-mutuel sports wagering lottery that would be statewide and could be desig- <br />nated for municipalities within the state; he feels this would be more beneficial <br />to cities than the proposed 5~ tax. Mayor also discussed her 5~ tax proposal with <br />Representative Petro and Senator Suhadolnik. There are nineteen vendors selling <br />lottery tickets in North Olmsted; in 1986 their sales were $2,629,183. Lottery <br />Commission paid the nineteen vendors a total of $144,605; the schools received <br />approximately $90,000. <br />9) Tom Fattlar, Tom Fabek, Bud Becker and Bill Cunningham have been meeting with <br />groups of people to discuss different proposals for the Recreation Complex. One <br />of the proposals is for a workout facility. Tom will be meeting with the Recrea- <br />tion Commission to discuss this. <br />10) Announced a sprinkling ban for the entire city from 9 A.M. to 9 P.M, <br />11) Pilot study for the ash removal project at the Waste Water Treatment Plant <br />started July 13th and will cover a six week period; results will be evaluated by <br />Dalton, Dalton, Newport and .the EPA. The one year prohibition period has been <br />extended to one year beyond the I and A Study. <br />12) Would again request that Council not suspend the rule requiring three readings <br />on Ordinance No. 87-72, dealing with lottery tickets. <br /> <br />
