Council Minutes of 4/21/87
-2-
3) Today, Service Director Noble, Forester Wendell and Mayor Petrigac attended
`'`'~' Arbor Day ceremonies and city tree award ceremony in North Royalton. Arbor Day
ceremonies for North Olmsted will be held Friday, April 24th, 10 A.M., in
North Olmsted Park.
4) Cleanup Day for North Olmsted will be Saturday, April 25th; would welcome all
volunteers.
5) Dorothy Mago, Secretary to the Building Commissioner, celebrated her 20th
anniversary as an employee of the City of North Olmsted; hopes she will remain with
the city for many future years.
Mr. Wilamosky, Chairman Finance Committee reported: 1) Finance Committee met on
April 13th, with Director Noble in attendance, to discuss Ordinance No. 87-34,
an appropriation in the amount of $4,046 in the line item, 1480 Interchange. The
amount represents some costs incurred for copies and professional suggestions
relative to four plans; some additional consulting fees were incurred due to
questions and concerns of council when. reviewing these plans. Committee has no
objection to Ordinance No. 87-34.
Mr. McKay, Chairman Environmental Control Committee as well as Streets and Drainage
Committee reported: 1) Streets and Drainage Committee met on Monday, April 13th.
Law Director Gareau, Service Director Noble, Councilmen Wilamosky and Lackey as
well as residents Campbell, Patton and Kennedy were in attendance. The Barton Road
residents had requested the. meeting to seek a solution to their back yard flooding;
requested the city to give assistance with a blocked drainage ditch and construction
of a Swale along the affected rear yards. Residents are willing to share the cost
of the Swale. Law Director advised the decision to undertake such a project was
the responsibility of the administration, not the Streets and Drainage Committee.
2) Committee also discussed Resolution No. 87-31, the dedication of certain streets
within the Pheasants Walk Subdivision and has no objection. President Saringer
indicated that she also was in attendance at this Streets and Drainage Committee
Meeting.
Letters and Communications:
Clerk of Council read a letter from Karen Filina who reported on a dangerous
traffic problem at the corner of Lorain and Walter Roads; she would like a traffic
signal installed at this intersection. President Saringer asked Chairman O'Grady
to take the letter into the Safety Committee for consideration. While Mr. O'Grady
agreed to do so, he also advised council that he could not foresee a solution
unless the city could find $60,000 to pay for signalization at this intersection.
Audience participation:
Henry Reichle, 5654 Columbia Road, apologized for remarks he made at the last
council meeting with respect to the Flagner home. He was mistaken - there is no
addition to the home; a back stairway and an open porch had been enclosed; that
was all. The Flagner home is in excellent condition and he will continue to help
Mr. Flagner with the final finishing touches prior to occupancy.
Larry Szuhay, 4279 Laurell Lane, speaking on behalf of the Forestwood/Laurell
Woods Homeowners' Association, presented a petition, signed by 219 residents,
urging the officials of the City of North Olmsted to retain ownership of the
parcel of city-owned property between Marquette Boulevard, Edgepark Boulevard
and Porter Road.
