Mitchell Drive, a residential street running
between Great Northern Boulevard and Columbia Road.
This land is presently zoned for multi-family dwelling units on the 14 acres
abutting Brookpark Road and single family units on the remaining acreage. In
order for the shopping strip to be built, the developer would have to:
1. Remove the "limited access highway" restriction from Brookpark Rd.,
2. Change the zoning on the land from residential to general business
retail.
Biskind Development Company's proposal was turned down by a vote of 4-2 by the
Planning Commission for the following reasons:..
1. It would not be in the best interest of the community to rezone
the property for retail use as it would "encroach upon residential
use" and destroy the balance between commercial and residential
development.
2. The members of the Commission were not convinced that rezoning
the land for retail use was the best use of the land.
3. That removing the restriction from Brookpark Road and rezoning
the land would result in massive traffic problems similar to
those on Lorain Road.
4. To permit the rezoning as proposed by the developer would set
a precedent for further encroachment on other residential
areas .
