MINUTES OF THE MEETING OF THE COUNCIL <br />OF THE CITY OF NORTH OLMSTED <br />JANUARY 19, 1.988 <br />Present: President Pro Tem Ronald Tallon, Councilwoman Bahas, Councilmen <br />Bohlmann, McKay, O'Grady, Wilamosky. <br />Also present: Mayor Yvonne Petrigac, Law Director Michael Gareau, Finance <br />Director Edward Boyle, Clerk of Council Florence Campbell. <br />Absent: President Saringer and Councilman Boehmer. <br />Meeting was called to order by President Pro Tem Tallon at 8:05 P.M., in Council <br />Chambers, 5200 Dover Center Road, North Olmsted, Ohio. <br />Members of the audience were invited to join Members of Council in reciting the <br />Pledge of Allegiance to the Flag. <br />Minutes of the Council Meeting of January 5, 1988, were approved. <br />President Pro Tem Tallon announced: 1) President Saringer is absent this even- <br />ing due to the hospitalization of her husband; Councilman Boehmer is ill with <br />the flu . <br />2) Resolution No. 88-12 has been added to tonight's agenda; suspension of the <br />rule requiring three readings will be requested on Ordinance Nos. 88-2, 88-6 <br />and 88-12. <br />Mayor Petrigac reported: 1) Board of Control met on January 11, 1988. Two bids <br />on activated carbon were received; lowest bid. of 16~ per pound, by Henry L. <br />Baker and Associates, Incorporated, was accepted. <br />2) Mayors and Managers Association will be closely watching the outcome of Issue <br />2; all of council has received literature from the Municipal League on this issue. <br />3) The Council of Governments is moving ahead with plans to create a trained team <br />to deal with hazardous material accidents. This will involve two fire fighters <br />from Bay Village, Rocky River, Fairview, and Westlake as well as three from <br />Lakewood and North Olmsted. It will also include the necessary equipment. The <br />unit will be established in the same manner as WEB, which deals with riot con- <br />trol and drug enforcement and includes a SWAT Team and Bomb Squad. Both of <br />these units will come under the Council of Governments. North Olmsted's initial <br />investment will be approximately $17,500, with a total cost for training and <br />equipment, from the basic start-up funding, of approximately $87,450. Would <br />appreciate any input from council; if council would like a meeting with Fire <br />Chief VanKuren, would be more than happy to set it up. <br />4) With respect to the budget for WEB, the total cost is $186,276, with North <br />Olmsted's share being around the $37,000/$38,000 mark. Copies of the WEB .Annual <br />Report have been given to the President and Clerk of Council and are available <br />for council's information. <br />5) Would appreciate council's consideration to suspend the rules requiring three <br />readings on Resolution No. 88-12 on behalf of the American hostages. <br />6) Has received a letter from Mr. Joseph Britton requesting that his name be <br />withdrawn as a candidate for the Planning Commission; he also indicates that he <br />does not wish to be considered for a reappointment to the Architectural Review <br />Board. (Mr. Britton's letter attached hereto as part of council records.) <br /> <br />
