Council Minutes of 10/2/90
5) Paving, drains, crack filling, and striping have been completed on
North Park Drive and Twin Circle. Work has begun on Ranchview and
Canterbury.
6) Through the hard work of Tina Hlavaty, Director of the Senior Genter,
a $73,000 grant to repair the roof has been received.
7) The Building Dept. has been working on the revamping of our flood
plain as impacted by I-480. By defining what that flood plain is and
what the area is, the homeowners will have flood insurance. Center to North
Olmsted Park to level off the north end. The plan for the north erxi of
the park calls for the addition of pony-tail diamonds and picnic areas.
9) At the Rec. Center, the decking is set to begin. Much of the base
work for the roof has been done. There may be short-lived periods when
certain areas have to be closed down for safety purposes. Work is
proceeding an time.
10) Because of the Gulf crisis, our bus line ridership is increasing.
However, the crisis is increasing gas costs.
11) L was prevented from transporting high school students to and.
from the IX Center because of an Urban Mass Transit Authority
regulation. After contacting orur Congressman, Mr. Feighan; County
Commissioner, Mr. Hagan; ar~d the head of RTA, Mr. Tobor, the UMTA
problem was cleared up. However, a problem of bus availability arose.
There was a need for 14 or 15 buses per day; during rush hour, only 8
buses are available in the. entire County. ~ have an understanding with
the schools that roe stand ready to assist when we can.
12) The Fire Department will conduct a Lieutenant's examination on
October 3. The Department has been conducting Haz Mat training at the
Waste Water Treatment Plant. The training has been expanded to include
all Departments who might possibly need to handle hazardous materials at
some point in the future.
13) At the Waste Water Treatment Plant, the lift station work should be
completed by next week.
14) We are opening up bids on the new TV truck that was authorized
earlier this year.
15) We have had 8.8 inches of rain this September; however, flooding
calls have been down; our hard work is showing dividends.
Law Director Gareau reported: 1) A request for admissions has been sent
in the lawsuit that the City brought against the insurance company who
refused to defend the City in the Dingess case.
2) I have been preparing oral arguments for the Faughender case which
will be heard in the Sixth Circuit on November 6.
3) Today we received an answer in the Eliza Jermi.ngs case.
4) A pre-trial was held Monday in one of our personal injury cases.
Finance Director Burns reported: 1) The State of Ohio will be conducting
audits for the next two years.
