<br />MINUTES OF THE MEETING OF THE COUNCIL
<br />OF THE CITY OF NORTH OLMSTED
<br />JANUARY 2, 1990
<br />Present: President James Boehmer, Councilwoman Bahas, Councilmen Bohlmann,
<br />Leonard, McKay, O'Grady, Wilamosky.
<br />Also present: Mayor Edward Boyle, Law Director Michael Gareau, Finance Director
<br />James Burns, Clerk of Council Florence Campbell,
<br />Meeting was called to order by President Boehmer at 8:00 P.M., in Council Chambers,
<br />5200 Dover Center Road, North Olmsted.
<br />President Boehmer invited members of the audience to join Members of Council in
<br />reciting the Pledge of Allegiance to the Flag.
<br />Minutes of the Council Meeting of December 19, 1989, were approved.
<br />Mr. Wilamosky moved to amend the agenda to provide for councilmanic action in fill -
<br />ing the vacancy of the at-large seat recently held by President Boehmer, second by
<br />Mr. O'Grady, unanimously approved. Mr. Bohlmann placed in nomination the name of
<br />Ronald Tallon. Since there were no other nominations, Mr. Bohlmann moved that
<br />nominations be closed, second by Mr. Wilamosky, unanimously approved. Mr, Wilamosky
<br />moved that council recess at this time to allow Mr. Tallon to be sworn in as Council-
<br />man-at-Large, second by Mr. McKay, unanimously approved. Mayor Boyle administered
<br />the oath of office to Mr. Tallon; Councilman-at-Large Tallon was then recognized by
<br />council, the administration and members of the audience and took his seat at the
<br />council table. The regular council agenda was continued.
<br />Mayor Boyle reported: 1) Today, former Lt. Metzger was sworn in as Captain and former
<br />Sgt. Mason was sworn in as Lieutenant in the Police Department. The forthcoming
<br />appropriation legislation will provide for the increase of three people to the Police
<br />Department staff; the swearing-in today laid the groundwork .for this as well as for
<br />the renewal of the Crime Prevention Program which was eliminated some time ago.
<br />2) With respect to the new directors and their off ices, the Service Director/Secre-
<br />tary, Engineer/Secretary will be located at tt-e south end of the first floor of
<br />City Hall. The aisle between the Engineering and Building Departments will be
<br />eliminated to provide for more space in these two departments. Estella King will
<br />not be taking the position as Senior Center Administrator; Director Copeland of
<br />the Department of Human Resources will be interviewing to fill this position.
<br />Safety Director/Secretary will. be located at the north .end of the building. Director
<br />Gundy will be coming on board on the 15th of January. He was in attendance for the
<br />swearing-in this morning as well as for the preliminary discussions with respect to
<br />the Fire Department negotiations. The negotiators for the city will include Service
<br />Director Bohlmann, Safety Director Gundy, Chief VanKuren, Law Director Gareau,
<br />Personnel and Administrative Services Director (as yet unnamed) and Mayor Boyle.
<br />3) Tomorrow, service crews will start cleaning the storm sewers on Maple Ridge. This
<br />is the first phase in working through Deerfield and the affected streets in the
<br />;~,~ area .
<br />;,,~,,, 4) While cleaning out his office, Service Director Bohlmann found a telegram from
<br />the Environmental Protection Agency in Chicago. EPA has been trying to contact
<br />North Olmsted for a while - this mail-gram was dated the early part of December.
<br />Basically it was a letter of intent to annul the $13,000,000 grant the city has.
