Special Council Minutes of 12/29/92 <br />LEGISLATI~T (continued) <br />Mr. McKay commente that performance should account for at least some of the <br />increases in the Mayor's salary. Ile noted that this Administration has made great <br />strides in repairing streets grid eliminating flooding. For ten years, he has been <br />asking for street repairs and nothing has been done until this Administration. Mr. <br />McKay commented that you get what you pay for. <br />Mr. Gareau commented that a number of years ago he recognized the method of setting <br />salaries for elected officials was a problem. However, what disturbs him now is <br />that the Mayor is being criticized for introducing the salary legislation. This is <br />not the Mayor's job; it is Council's job. However, when Council did rat come for- <br />ward with the legislation and time was rurming out, the Mayor introduced the <br />legislation. <br />Mayor Boyle further commented that the Administrative Assistant is a corn laude <br />graduate of the University of Dayton. She serves as the liaison to the school <br />district; indeed, through her efforts, the city enjoys the best working relation- <br />ship with the schools than ever before. In addition, the Ac~ninistrative Assistant <br />is an officer of the Ccm~uni.ty Improvement Corporation--elected to that position by <br />the former Mayor and her Administrative Assistant. Mayor Boyle commented that it <br />was his feeling that Mr. Leonard did not support wage increases for women in <br />general; however, he felt that Mr. Leonard had supported increases for men, which <br />seemed to represent a sexist attitude. <br />Mr. Leonard stated that his report did not criticize any of the Mayor's employees. <br />He feels that the Administrative Assistant is doing a gaud job. Ike only wanted to <br />point out that the Mayor has help that others do not. <br />Mayor Boyle commented that North Olmsted is a large city. Because of the size of <br />the city, he also has a Safety Director which many other cities do not have. <br />Council President Boehmer called for the vote. Roll call on the motion to adopt <br />Ordinance No. 92-176: Bahas, yes; Lind, yes; McKay, yes; Leonard, no; Musial, no; <br />Nashar, yes; Saringer, yes. Nation passed with five affirmative votes and two <br />negative votes. Ordinance No. 92-176 adopted. <br />Ordinance No. 92-177 introduced by Mayor Boyle was given its third reading. An <br />ordinance establishing and fixing the compensation for the Director of Law of the <br />City of North Olmsted for the term of office commencing January 1, 1984 and ending <br />December 31, 1997, and declaring an emergency. Mr. McKay moved for adoption; <br />second by Mr. Lind. Roll call: McKay, yes; Lind, yes; Saringer, yes; Musial, no; <br />Leonard, no; Bahas, yes; Nashar, yes. Motion passed with five affirmative votes <br />and two negative votes. Ordinance No. 92-177 adopted. <br />Ordinance No. 92-178 introduced by Mayor Boyle was given its third reading.
