MINUTES OF THE MEETING OF TEIE COUNCIL <br />OF THE CITY OF I~RTH OLMSTID <br />~ OCTOBER 6, 1992 <br />Present: Council President Boel~ner, Council M~nbers Babas, Leonard, Lind, <br />McKay, Nashar, Saringer <br />Also Present: Mayor Ed Boyle, Law Director Michael Gareau, Finance Director <br />James Burns, Clerk of Council Barbara Semen <br />Absent: Council Member Musial <br />Council President Boel~r called the meeting to order at 8:07 p.m. in Council <br />Chambers, 5200 Dover Center Road, North Olmsted, Ohio. <br />Members of the audience were invited to join Council in reciting the Pledge of <br />Allegiance to the Flag. <br />The minutes of the meeting of September 15, 1992 were approved as written. <br />President Boetgner announced that the following legislation would be passed under <br />suspension of the rules: Ordinances 92-111 through 92-122; Ordinance 92-135; <br />Ordinance 92-139; Ordinance 92-140. <br />In recognition of World Food Day on October 16, Mayor Boyle resented a <br />proclamation to Lori Hardony, a member of the Human Resources Advisory Board. <br />The Administration and City Council encourage all residents to support human <br />services which attempt to ease the pain of hunger and promote solutions to end <br />the problem of hunger in our country. Donations of food for the city Food <br />Cupboard program will be accepted at the next Council meeting on October Z0. <br />Mayor Boyle reported: 1) Because the election season is upon us, political signs <br />have begun to appear. All signs 3xi the city, state, or county right-of-way are <br />being removed. By ordinance, the city does have the right to charge a noiminal <br />fee for these removal services. In lieu of the fee, the city will accept <br />donations to the Humeri Resources Department which will be used for food purchases <br />for the needy during the holiday season. <br />2) The County Commissioners have unanimously voted to approve Moen Corporation to <br />receive personal property tax abatement under the city's enterprise zone program. <br />Initially, Moen will bring 300 jobs to the city with the promise of 150 more in <br />the future. They will guarantee the city $1.5 million in revenue over the next <br />15 years, and we will share a portion of this with the school system. <br />3) Halloween will be celebrated in the city from 6:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Saturday, <br />October 31. In addition, the Youth Development Program of the Human Resources <br />Department will hold a Halloween party on Friday, October 30, at the Comnnality <br />Cabin from 3:30 to 5:30 p.m. for children ages 3 to 9. <br />4) Two new firefighters have been sworn in--Richard Mecklenberg and David <br />Boatman. <br />5) Have met with Fred DeGrandis, the president of St. John Westshore Hospital, to <br />discuss the implementation of a wellness and preventative medicine program for <br />~" city employees. This proposal will be ,presented to the city hospitalization <br />''~`' committee for discussion and, hopefully, implementation. <br />
