Council Minutes of 10/6/92 <br />6) Begirniing in October, the J. P. Farley Corporation, the city hospitalization <br />administrator, will provide an on-site representative every fourth Tuesday to <br />answer questions from e~ployees. <br />7) Jean Podskalan, the Personnel & Administrative Department secretary, was the <br />city United Way coordinator this year. Jean took a novel approach this year arxi <br />arranged for a dunking booth at the Recreation Center. For $l, amateur <br />"pitchers" had an opportunity to dunk city employees and elected officials. <br />Almost $200 was raised for United Way. Good job, Jean! <br />8) Two new building inspectors have been hired--Jim Tousley and Arnold Moore. <br />9) The Department of Oman Resources is offering a support group program for <br />residents who are dealing with grief or loss. The Senior Center is offering a <br />similar program geared specifically to senior citizens. More information can be <br />obtained from Chris Allegra of the Human Resources Department or Tina Hlavaty at <br />the Senior Center. <br />10) On Wednesday, October 21, a long-term care campaign rally will be held at the <br />Metro Campus of Cuyahoga Gam~nity College. Congressional candidates have been <br />invited to share their thoughts on long-term care aril to answer questions from <br />the audience. <br />11) Monday, October 5, was Child Health Day. <br />12) October is breast cancer awareness month. This form of cancer is one of the <br />major causes of death for American women; however, with early detection and <br />treatment, the five-year survival rate has been increased to 91X. <br />13) Tuesday, October 6, is German-American Day. <br />14) A Sunday liquor sale issue will be on the ballot for Ward. 4, Precinct G. The <br />Board of Elections sent the ballot wording today, and it has been passed on to <br />the Law Department for review. <br />Law Director Garesu reported: 1) Two weeks ago, oral arguments were given to the <br />Supreme Court in the private detective case. <br />2) The Law Department is currently preparing a motion for summary judgment and <br />brief in the Marc's Funtime Pizza case. <br />3) The revised judgment entry in the Developers Diversified case on behalf of the <br />Moen proposal has been prepared and submitted. <br />4) An executive session will be held this evening to discuss the Boehm~er lawsuit. <br />Finance Director Burns reported: 1) The bond ordinances, 92-lli through 92-122, <br />that are before Council this evening have been discussed in the Finance <br />Committee. The total amount of the various purpose bonds is $11,085,000 covering <br />$10,740,000 in notes. The notes are scheduled for a total of a 20-year pay down <br />with a level debt service of approximately $950,000 a year. The average coupon <br />rate on these bonds will be approximately 4.81X. Ordinance 92-122 deals with the <br />refunding bons for the old Recreation Center bonds for the construction of the <br />original Recreation Center. This bond will mature over the same period as the <br />existing debt and will have an average coupon of approximately 5X. The estimated <br />savings on this refunding will be a roximately $270,000. The total amount of <br />all the bonds that will be issued is14,455,000. <br />2 <br />.. ~~- <br />
