b1f;ST PARK-FOREST RIDGE CIVIC ASSOCIATION QUESTIONS P,ND CONA~NTS RE: CROCKER-STEAP~NS
FOREST SCHOOL/INTRO PARKS
6. Will there be any kind of fence and natural barriers to protect the Forest School
playground areal Parents and residents are about Forest School (the school in the
woods) concerning pollution, noise and dust for which the school was not designed.
17. Will there be some protection (fence?) to keep Park animals from wandering into the
roachray? WE understand that someone was killed in an accident on Crocker-Bassett
north of Center Ridge Rd. when a car hit a deer. We see dead animals frequently
on that road a_nd since there will so much more traffic brought in between I-90
and I-480 when this road is completed, we worry about the increased hazard to
people and animals.
18. Where will the Metro Parks new entrance most likely be constructed?
19. How and with whom can we have further input concerning the natural mound and
__.. tree barrier we request?
ECOLOGY/HEALTH PROBLEMS
20. Many of our residents are worried about clean air because they have
cY~~ronic respiratory diseases or ailments which restrict their breathing and
require good, clean air. Needless to say, they are very concerned about pollution
during and after this road is constructed. Saving trees and planting trees on a mound
ctiill be a priority for them as well as to the rest of the residents. Comments we
have received: "We deserve clean air.' "Your trees mean my clean air."
1. On Hampton Dr. alone we have;
a. At least 5 diagnosed asthma cases.
b. A . .e where 3 family members are under a doctors care and medication
for severe allergies to dust including dust carried in the air. Others
have also reported dust allergies. (Needless to say, they are ail con-
cerned about construction dust.)
c. Another writes, "We are parents of a Downs Syndrome child who will be
three years old when the road is Completed. We are ver concerned
about the safety of the high speed road."
2. We have not yet canvassed our entire homeowners organization, but one of the
c~:lls we received was from a resident with severe asthma and sinus problems
who quotes from a publication call AIR CURRENTS, A world Leader in Respiratory
Care, that states that asthma has increased by an enormous percentage in the past
20 to 30 years. They are concerned about traffic pollutants and trees which must _
remain as filters. This resident had hoped for a two-lane highway as winds follow
four-lane highways making a "wind tunnel" bringing in pollution and allergens.
IIJVIRONMENTAL CONCERNS
21. Many of our residents are nature lovers and concerned about the natural
ti7ooded environment. (Trees, animals, wetlands, vegetation, etc.) We have received
numerous calls on these issues. Some of the concerns are:
1. What will happen to the displaced animals we are used to seeing since so muc~t
wooded area has already been taken here and in Westlake? We have seen deer
and pheasant to name a few coming into our yards as they are removed from their
natural habitats.
Fage 5 of h
.~,. _ ....~.- ,.. r _ ,-_;~ ,
