e_ <br />Council Minutes of 1/21192 <br />Mr. Boel~ner announced that the next Council meeting would be held on Monday, <br />February 3, because of the election on Tuesday, February 4. <br />Mr. McKay, Chairperson of the Public Safety, Health and Welfare Committee <br />reported: 1) The Committee met on January 21, 1992 to discuss Resolution <br />No. 91-191 in support of the Crime Bill which is currently before Congress. <br />The Committee recommends passage of this resolution. <br />Mrs. Babas, Chairperson of the Intro-Goverr~nental Relations, Legislative and <br />Long-Range Planning Committee reported: 1) The public hearing on the Community <br />Development Block Grant Program was held on Monday, January 20, and several <br />proposals were submitted. As discussed earlier in Council's caucus meeting, a <br />major proposal was the land acquisition for senior citizen housing. Mrs. Babas <br />moved that Mr. Copeland be instructed to prepare the proposal for the Community <br />Development Block Grant for acquisition money for senior housing; second by Mr. <br />McKay; Passed iunanimously. <br />2) The Legislative Committee met on Monday, January 20, to interview Sue <br />Ferencik for a position on the Beard of Zoning Appeals. 'The Cori-ttee <br />unanimously approved Ms. Ferencik for this position. Mrs. Babas moved that <br />Council approve the anointment of S~ Ferencik to the Board of Zoning Appeals; <br />second by Mr. Lind; passed unanimously. <br />Mr. Nashar, Chairperson of the Streets aa~d Drainage Committee reported: 1) The <br />Committee met on January i6 with Council Members Saringer and Nashar and Service <br />Director Bohlmann in attendance. Agenda items were: <br />a. Completion of the 1991 projects and the carry-over projects for 1992-- <br />especially the Park Ridge. development and Marion Road. <br />b. In 1992, plans are to complete 8 to 10 struts with asphalt overlays and <br />major work to begin on Marion, Clifford anti Stoneybrook. <br />c. Completion of the Coe Ditch and work to begin on the Rice Ditch. <br />All projects will be pending the approval of the appropriations which will be <br />submitted to the Finance Committee. <br />2) Mr. Nashar comanended the Service Department for the outstanding job of snow <br />removal on City streets during the recent inclement weather. <br />Mr. Musial, Chairperson of the Recreation Cornnittee reported: 1) The Committee <br />met on Tuesday, January 21, with Cou~ricil Members Babas, Nashar and Musial in <br />attendance. David Gardner was interviewed for a position on the Recreation <br />Commission. Mr. Gardner is a well-qualified and enthusiastic ca~.i:date, and the <br />Committee tazanimously recommended his appointment. Mr. Musial moved to appoint <br />David Gardner to a position on the Recreation Commission; second by Mrs. Babas; <br />passed. unan:umously. <br />Audience Participation <br />Service Director Bohlmann expressed appreciation for Mr. Nashar's commendation <br />of the Service Department. He would like the comments in written form so they <br />can be passed along to the Department employees. Mr. Bohlmmmm thanked Council <br />for supplying the proper machinery and equipment to do a good job of snow <br />removal. <br />2 <br /> <br />
