e_ Council Minutes of 1/21192 Mr. Boel~ner announced that the next Council meeting would be held on Monday, February 3, because of the election on Tuesday, February 4. Mr. McKay, Chairperson of the Public Safety, Health and Welfare Committee reported: 1) The Committee met on January 21, 1992 to discuss Resolution No. 91-191 in support of the Crime Bill which is currently before Congress. The Committee recommends passage of this resolution. Mrs. Babas, Chairperson of the Intro-Goverr~nental Relations, Legislative and Long-Range Planning Committee reported: 1) The public hearing on the Community Development Block Grant Program was held on Monday, January 20, and several proposals were submitted. As discussed earlier in Council's caucus meeting, a major proposal was the land acquisition for senior citizen housing. Mrs. Babas moved that Mr. Copeland be instructed to prepare the proposal for the Community Development Block Grant for acquisition money for senior housing; second by Mr. McKay; Passed iunanimously. 2) The Legislative Committee met on Monday, January 20, to interview Sue Ferencik for a position on the Beard of Zoning Appeals. 'The Cori-ttee unanimously approved Ms. Ferencik for this position. Mrs. Babas moved that Council approve the anointment of S~ Ferencik to the Board of Zoning Appeals; second by Mr. Lind; passed unanimously. Mr. Nashar, Chairperson of the Streets aa~d Drainage Committee reported: 1) The Committee met on January i6 with Council Members Saringer and Nashar and Service Director Bohlmann in attendance. Agenda items were: a. Completion of the 1991 projects and the carry-over projects for 1992-- especially the Park Ridge. development and Marion Road. b. In 1992, plans are to complete 8 to 10 struts with asphalt overlays and major work to begin on Marion, Clifford anti Stoneybrook. c. Completion of the Coe Ditch and work to begin on the Rice Ditch. All projects will be pending the approval of the appropriations which will be submitted to the Finance Committee. 2) Mr. Nashar comanended the Service Department for the outstanding job of snow removal on City streets during the recent inclement weather. Mr. Musial, Chairperson of the Recreation Cornnittee reported: 1) The Committee met on Tuesday, January 21, with Cou~ricil Members Babas, Nashar and Musial in attendance. David Gardner was interviewed for a position on the Recreation Commission. Mr. Gardner is a well-qualified and enthusiastic ca~.i:date, and the Committee tazanimously recommended his appointment. Mr. Musial moved to appoint David Gardner to a position on the Recreation Commission; second by Mrs. Babas; passed. unan:umously. Audience Participation Service Director Bohlmann expressed appreciation for Mr. Nashar's commendation of the Service Department. He would like the comments in written form so they can be passed along to the Department employees. Mr. Bohlmmmm thanked Council for supplying the proper machinery and equipment to do a good job of snow removal. 2
