This year, Manuel Roman, Jr. from the Police
Dept. and Mark Weston from the Fire Dept.
• At the last Council of Governments (COG) meeting, the West Shore Fire District
Study was the topic of discussion. After nearly two years of research and
discussion, the communities of the west shore were asked their position of
moving forward on forming a fire district or fire authority. After careful
consideration on how this would impact North Olmsted, the city has declined to
be an active participant in the fire authority at this time. North Ridgeville and
Lakewood have also declined while Bay Village, Westlake, Fairview Park and
Rocky River will move forward. While there were a number of excellent
recommendations for collaboration and consolidation between the departments,
this study does not predict any initial savings for the City of North Olmsted. For
this reason, the city will not actively participate in the fire authority.
