Council Minutes of 11-01-2011 • Two new pick-up trucks with V-plows have been delivered and will be on the road soon. All other salt and plow trucks are ready for winter to arrive. • The 2011 golf season is the rainiest season on record and our revenues are down significantly in response. The ballroom, however, is also having a record year and should exceed revenues of $500,000. • Work on the roof and the dehumidification system continues at the Recreation Center and should conclude within the next two weeks. The rain last week set the work schedule back yet again. • A volunteer, community event to help senior citizens and those in need rake their yards and do minor yard clean up is set for this coming Saturday, November 5, 2011 from 9:00 a.m. until noon. This event is being organized by Jennifer Rudolph. Any senior who needs assistance can register with Tiffany Hunt at the Senior Center at 440.716.4264. • The City's Veterans Day Celebration will be held on Veteran's Day which is November 11, 2011. It will be at the Veteran's Plaza in North Olmsted Park. The ceremony will begin at 1:00 p.m. Director of Law Gareau: • In the matter of Megan Frenz vs. Springvale Golf Course and Ballroom, a claim arising from injuries sustained by a patron at the Springvale Golf Course, a pre- trial is scheduled for November 9, 2011. • There is a new referral to the Law Dept. regarding property maintenance - an overgrown condition on Summerland. • The Law Dept. has a number of easement/rights of access issues including the Recreation Center, Beech Lane for collection system work and for the Burns Road Culvert Project. Legislative action will be required for a number of those projects. • He has been working with the City Engineer to complete the ward boundaries. The Board of Elections has requested that the ward boundaries be established through legislative and administrative action and be accompanied by a formal legal description prepared by a surveyor. • The Law Dept. has been working with the Administration on two structure fires, one on Nantucket and another on the corner of Birch and Coe. In the event that progress is not made on these buildings, the Law Dept. will assist the Building Dept. to order the buildings demolished. Councilman Mahoney noted that there was a Board of Control meeting held November 1, 2011 at 9:30 a.m. and item 3 was listed as labor negotiator RFP tabulation and contract awards. Mahoney asked Gareau what the result of the meeting. Gareau said the Board of Control voted unanimously to award the contract to Gary Johnson of Johnson, Miller & Schmitz for those services. The process that was utilized does not permit an unlimited contract. It is a $25,000 maximum contract. 2
