Council Minutes of OS-21-2013 <br />• Captain Mike Kilbane has accepted the Police Chief's position with the City of <br />Independence. His last day is May 28~'. Mike started with the North Olmsted in <br />January 1994. We wish him well in his new position. <br />• Retired firefighter James Miller passed away on May 8t". Jim started with the <br />NOFD on May 20, 1985 and retired June 12, 2009. Our thoughts and prayers go <br />out to his family and friends. <br />• He presented long time resident, Ken Neuzil, a Proclamation (attached). <br />• He presented North Olmsted seniors with scholarships (information attached). <br />Director of Law Gareau: <br />• He complimented Captain Kilbane and wished him well. <br />• He continues to work on abandoned and vacant homes and property maintenance <br />issues in the city. They are working to develop an alternative strategy through the <br />Land Bank, on which Mayor Kennedy is a Board Member. Assistant Director of <br />Law O'Malley attended a Land Bank seminar that focused on educating <br />municipalities that the Land Bank program exists and to get vacant/abandoned <br />properties back on the tax rolls to make them a beneficial use to the community. <br />Director of Finance Copfer <br />• Last week she had three days of building permits and code enforcement analysis <br />with the Munis implementation consultant. This is the start of the Building and <br />Engineering conversion to Munis' integrated system. <br />• The auditors are back this week finalizing the general purpose financial <br />.: <br />statements for the end of the year. They are due to the State by the end of May. <br />• She sent out the first quarter written analysis last Friday. The benchmark <br />operating stats for the first quarter were E-mailed today. She can be contacted <br />with any questions or concerns. <br />• She met with the city's Bond Counsel, the Law Director and City Engineer and <br />met again with the County to work on the revised Olmsted Township Sewer <br />Agreement with the County. <br />Councilman Barker had no report, but he took a moment of personal privilege to <br />announce that this Thursday's NOCCA meeting has been cancelled. <br />Councilman Orlowski made a motion to appoint Tom Dubowski to the Landmarks <br />Commission for the term January 1, 2013 through December 31, 2014. The motion was <br />seconded by Councilwoman Williamson and passed unanimously. Tom Dubowski <br />appointed to the Landmarks Commission 6-0. <br />Councilman Orlowski made a motion to appoint Paul Schumann to the Planning <br />Commission for the unexpired term of January 1, 2013 through December 31, 2016. The <br />motion was seconded by Councilwoman Williamson and passed unanimously.
