'~ December l$,;2012
~.~
';
Dear Councilmnd Members of the Administration:
Tonigfit ~s a`special night for me: Although it saddens me in so many ways, please celebrate tonight wuith me , `
'I'liose of you who really know me understattd how important service to this community is: I have tried tg° serve
in almost evirry:way I could: There has. been scouting, youth sports; Kiwanis and homeowner associatson; to-,
name a few One of my favorite opportunities, for. the past 19 years, ha been though this city's goverr~nye~nt.,
Through City Council .and as part of an Administration; Ihave had the privilege of positively. impactling North ;
.Olittsted.
I~ have seen needs and have, by working with fellow council members and several admirAistratiniis, filled them.
Ho~uv many people within their community have had the opportunity to upgrade emergency services,':bu~ld and
matnta~n Facilities, improve street conditions, and reduce costs? It has been' a true privilege: '
A.t the. t~mes'when I, with Councilman Nashar, spoi~red, our City's first residential property ~maintei~ancc-code.
or~when co-chairing the campaign for our ~w library, other council, members told me; off the record; that I~was
politically suicidal. Frankly, it was also. politically lonely. when chairing the levy.for our Fire Station #2 Bt~t..~
tdday we,all can'sit back and look at our beautifullibrary and our fire station that.is safe for our fire fighters and
will house 21st century, equipment. Today you can all agree; residential property maintenance is one of the riiost
•~ important .issues in North Olmsted. Not only are we glad we have a code, but we are looking to strengthen it.
~- All these, initiatives were the rights things.to do. Oh, how I would love to go on about all the positive thitYgs thst
can be accomplished when political agendas are put aside and the only agenda is making North Olmsted an `'
even better place.
There is only hing more. important to me than service to North Olmsted and its residents. That is serving; my,
family. For the past 19 .years my family has had to share me with the city quite a bit. Though there is;tiothirig
currently serious, there are needs for them that must be filled.
As of December 31, 2412 I am resigning from City Council. It is my hope as things get squared away I might.
sometimereturn to serving our residents in some ot~icial capacity, But.for now, I will simply continue to,serve
my' community through Kiwanis, Home Owner's Association, and other groups. My main focus must be family,
I have no idea who you might choose to'be my successor,.butInsk you all to see to it that they try to lie fair to
all-and that they hear all .people out. God gives us two ears'and only one mouth. I think God was trying to telLus
to listen more than we talk. I am very pleased that in recent years, politics in NorthOlmsted has taken a back
seat to benefiting our community. I most sincerely, ask you to continue in that direction,.
Thank u,
Duane K. Limpert
President of the North Olmsted City Council
