Council Minutes of 09-03-2013
Councilwoman Williamson made a motion to not object to liquor permit no. 8679083 for
Foo Sing Restaurant located at 25102 Brookpark Road. The motion was seconded by
Councilman Smith and passed unanimously. Liquor permit no. 8679083 Foo Sing
Restaurant approved.
• Discussed last was Ordinance 2013-72 which is an Ordinance amending Chapter
521 of the Codified Ordinances of the City of North Olmsted entitled, "General
Offenses Code; Health, Safety and Sanitation" for the purpose of establishing a
new Section 521.16 entitled "Constructing, Cleaning and Repairing Sidewalks" in
the City of North Olmsted. This Ordinance was discussed and held in committee
pending further research. A full report will be presented on this matter upon the
conclusion of the committee's discussions.
AUDIENCE PARTICIPATION
Marie Peepers, 6389 McKenzie Road said on behalf of the North Olmsted Community
Council, she wanted to report that Homecoming 2013 was a great success for the
community and was very well attended. The rides companies had their largest sales ever
since coming to the event. They made $49,706 which gives Community Council
$16,760. $6000 will be used for their scholarship program, and the balance will go into
further projects for the park and community. With the assistance of Betsy Drenski and
Chris Wetmore of the Recreation Center, Community Council completed the following
projects: anew water line installed for the picnic pavilion and a water fountain and
faucet for the rec dept. to use when they power wash the pavilion. Road Foreman Dave
Demaline was a great help with his assistance in several projects and pointing out needs
of the park. New tables were purchased and there were various electrical improvements.
She thanked the Recreation and Service Depts. for the setup and take down of the
Midway, the Recreation Dept. clean up crew for keeping the Midway and park clean, the
Police Dept. and auxiliaries for keeping the Midway secure and handling the parade, the
Mayor and City Council for their continued support of the event, Renee Overstreet and
Molly Kelly for their assistance with the paperwork and Coletta Strippy for her quick
responses to questions.
Thomas O'Grady, 6328 Hastings Drive congratulated Peepers and the Community
Council. He congratulated and thanked the men and women of labor in honor of Labor
Day and the Project Labor Agreements the city created. He mentioned that Mayor
Kennedy held a press conference in Spring regarding the Mayor's Court, and told the
people of North Olmsted that Mayor's Court has made a profit. O'Grady said that Mayor
Kennedy is inaccurate. The amount of money made in the Mayor's Court compared to
the revenue generated by the Rocky River Municipal Court and sent to the city of North
Olmsted the first 3 months and 6 months shows that this is inadequate. Mayor Kennedy
said he read O'Grady's statement online regarding fines and that salaries were added in
but he forgot to add in the court costs that North Olmsted collects; the measure of how
successful a Mayor's court is. Rocky River took 100% of this, and now North Olmsted is
' receiving the court costs and that's the measure of profit.
