Council Minutes of 08-06-2013 <br />made $20,000 due to the Sheet Metal Golf outing and the Hockey Club golf <br />outing. <br />• The recreation department celebrated the 4~' of July with the annual bike parade, <br />picnic and games. Although the sky was threatening in the morning it was a great <br />day. Thank you to all who attended and helped out. Recreation staff presented <br />the Mayor, Finance Director and Planning Director with architect plans for the <br />new front desk area and fitness center spaces. Construction is moving along in <br />the tennis courts and new gymnastics space. The newly renovated area will open <br />shortly after Labor Day. <br />Director of Law Gareau: <br />• The Court of Appeals has ruled favorably in the matter of The City of North <br />Olmsted vs. Kim Rock. This is a criminal case arising from a Zoning Code <br />violation as it concerns the use of structures to house animals. In this case, a dog <br />house was used to provide shelter for a pig. <br />• He provided the Auditor with a Status of Claims, which happens annually. "Che <br />only pending civil action currently in the Law Dept. is a request for damages <br />Connell vs. The City of North Olmsted. This is being handled by insurance <br />defense counsel. <br />• The Law Dept. received $15,306.66 from a class action lawsuit concerning a drug <br />charge lawsuit. This was forwarded to Directors Copfer and Farver to be <br />reinvested in the city's health care plan. <br />• He participated in the North Olmsted Commission on Paratransit (NOCOP) <br />meeting with the Mayor of Olmsted Falls, Olmsted Falls Township Trustees and <br />Directors Copfer and Farver. Topics included charges for services, transportation <br />protocol and the future of NOCOP as an entity. <br />• The city continues to work through a final draft of the sewer rate agreement with <br />Olmsted Township. A draft has been presented to Cuyahoga County Law Dept., <br />and Engineers for additional review and comment. The hope is that a final draft <br />can be presented to Council within the next 30 days. This will align the user fees <br />for residents and non-residents in the Township. <br />• Asst Law Director Heyward comprised sales data for homes in North Olmsted. <br />In 2012 there were 248 residential sales. Through Apri12013 there were 84. The <br />average sale value in 2012 was $99,905 and that increased to $110,845. The <br />median sales was $100,512 which increased to $112,005. There were a total of <br />234 filed in 2012 and 66 filed through the end of April 2013. <br />• There has been an increase in property maintenance cases filed in the Mayor's <br />Court. There are 6 pending with an additional 6 potentially being filed with the <br />Mayor's Court. There are still some cases being filed in Rocky River Municipal <br />Court. <br />Director of Finance Copfer: <br />• No report on behalf of Director Copfer. <br />2 <br />
