Council Minutes of 01-02-2013 <br />,;~,,, be finished in the spring. Most gateway signs have been installed with anticipated <br />completion in January. Final reports have been submitted to fenders for both the <br />Country Club Boulevard Streetscape Project and the Fire Station lighting projects. <br />The year 2012 was a busy construction year. Final numbers are being compiled <br />by the Building Department. It is anticipated that permit activity exceeded <br />projections for the year. A detailed report will be provided to Coencil this month. <br />• The Recreation Center hosted a New Year's Eve celebration with a turnout of <br />over 300 people. National Skating Day will take place on January 5th, 2013 from <br />1:OOp.m. to 3:OOp.m. This is a free event for all that attend. The Ohio Sled <br />Hockey Tournament will be held on January 5 and 6, 2013. Come out to see <br />these amazing athletes play the game of sled hockey. <br />• Work on the Waste Water Treatment Plant is scheduled to begin tomorrow, <br />January 3, 2013. <br />• The second Mayor's Court Magistrate has been selected. Skip Lazzaro, the <br />current Magistrate for Berea CourtlActing Judge, has been selected for this <br />position. <br />• The IAFF contract is complete and before Council this evening -Resolution <br />2013-9. Suspension is requested on this legislation. Work for this contract was <br />done in-house. <br />Councilman Barker asked for a start date for Mayor's Court. Mayor Kennedy replied <br />Thursday, January 17, 2013. <br />,,,,R, Director of Law Gareau: <br />• Consistent with the Mayor's report regarding the IAFF contract, the city will be <br />proceeding in-house to negotiate with AFSCME, Clerical and Service. That will <br />be taking place January 8, 9, 15, and 15, 2013. <br />• This year is an election year for the Mayor, Law Director, Finance Director and <br />four Ward Council members. This will be the first cycle for these seats to go <br />through the new primary deadline the city has, which is September 10, 2013. The <br />filing date will be June 12, 2013. The filing requirements themselves have not <br />changed. You are required to establish the rates of compensation for elected <br />officials at least 30 days prior to the filing deadline of June 12. <br />• There are a total of 11 cases that were referred for the purpose of property <br />maintenance here in North Olmsted. There are 2 complaints with unresolved <br />issues and 3 that were referred and pending prosecution. There was kind of a <br />back-log over at Rocky River Court where not a lot was happening for awhile <br />there, so the city has begun to clear some of those out. He is not sure why they <br />were locked up, but he was able to get some pre-trials scheduled in the months of <br />January and February. <br />Director of Finance Copfer: <br />• Mayor Kennedy did not have a report on behalf of Finance Director Copfer. <br />Councilman Kearney, Chairman of the Recreation, Public Parks & Buildings Committee: <br />.. <br />2 <br /> <br />
