Council Minutes of 6/15/93 <br />Audience Partici~ ti~on.. <br />Richer Ruscin, 4057 Claque Road, is concerned about the camber of accidents <br />occurring at the curve of Claque Rc~d .and Virginia Avenue. A number of trees <br />have been lost due to motorists crashing into them. Mr. Ruscin wanted to know <br />the status of the Claque Road straightening project. Mr. Nashar commented that <br />the Claque Road project is not a current project. He will check with the Safety <br />Director for a report as the number of accidents. Mr. Naahar commented that <br />there are guard rails on the bends of Claque Road. Mr. Ruscin said that the <br />guard rails were on the north bound side a~ you travel east and he lives on the <br />south bound side. Ice .ld like the police to monitor the speed of cars on <br />Claque-Road. Mr. Nash~r said he would ask for more police surveillance in that <br />area. Mayor Boyle cas~nted that the Claque Road project is a city project, <br />and the city is keeping the lines of ccammuni.cation open with the county. The <br />county plans to have a public Ming about this project the latter part of this <br />year or the begirming of next year. The city will do sewer work on north Claque <br />this year. Mrs. Saringer cam~ented that she would ask the Service Director to <br />look into the possibility of a guard rail for the other side of Claque Road. <br />Paul Leopold, 4279 Dogwood Trail, is concerned about the safety hazard due to the <br />sharp turn where Dogwood Trail turns into Forestwood. Every year he hays to fill <br />up ruts in the tree lam, and the city has to plant new trees. Al.~, he has <br />replaced his mailbox three times. He suggests a stop sign be ir~talled at the <br />east bound side of Forestwood as it turns into Dogwood. Mayor Boyle said that he <br />would ask the city traffic engineer to look into this problem. <br />LEGISLATION <br />Resolution No. 93-63 introduced by Mayor Boyle was given its third. reading. A <br />resolution authorizing the Mayor of the City of North Olmsted to obtain an <br />option for the purchase of land for the construction of senior citizen .housing <br />within the City of North Olmsted, and declaring an emergency. Mr. MCY moved <br />for adoption; second by Mrs. Beringer; motion passed tman:i,mously. Resolution No. <br />93-63 adopted. <br />Ordinance No. 93-75 introduced by Mr. McKay on behalf of Mayor Boyle was given <br />its third reading. An ordinance amending Ordinance No. 93-22 entitled "An <br />ordinance adapting a new and revised 521.10 of Chapter 521 entitled "Health, <br />Safety. and Sanitation," which new and revised section shall be entitled <br />"Non-Smoking Areas in Places of Public Assembly and Public Buildings, as Arced" <br />by adding thereto provisions for permitting smoking in specific areas of the <br />Police Department. Mr. McKay moved for adoption; second by Mr. Leonard. Roll <br />call: McKay, Yea; Leonard, no; BahBS, n0; Lind, n©; Mus].al, IUD; Nashar, rio; <br />Saringer, no. Motion failed with six negative votes and. one affirmative vote. <br />Mr. Nashar commented that he voted no because he feels that people who are in <br />jail lose their right to privileges. Mrs. Babas commented twat the ordinance <br />only addressed people who weave being interrogated or questioned by the police. <br />She feels that this policy would have pot a large burden on the Safety Director <br />and Chief of Police to determine who should or should not be allowed to woke. <br />Also, she is concerned about the cars of second-hand smoke to police officers. <br />Mr. .McKay commented that the Police Chief is an expert on interrogation, and he <br />requested the policy.
