MINUTES OF THE MEETING OF THE COUNCIL <br />OF THE CITY OF NORTH OLMSTID <br />APRIL 20, 1993 <br />Present: Council President Boehmer, Council Members Babas, Leonard, Lind, <br />McKay, Musial, Nashar, Saringer <br />Also Present: Mayor Ed Boyle, Law Director Michael Gareau, Finance Director <br />James Burns, Clerk of Council Barbara Seman <br />Council President Boehmer called the meeting to order at 8 p.m. in Council <br />Chambers, 5200 Dover Center Road, North Olmsted, Ohio. <br />Members of the audience were invited to join Council in reciting the Pledge of <br />Allegiance to the Flag. <br />The minutes of the meeting of April 6, 1993 were approved as written. <br />Mr. Boehmex announced that Ordinance Nos. 93-45, 93-46, aril 93-56 would be passed <br />under suspension of the rules. <br />Mayor Boyle reported: 1) The North Olmsted Schools will hold the first annual <br />Education Foundation Inaugural Fund Raising Dinner at the Corporate Center on <br />Saturday, May 1. Tickets are $50, and black tie is optional. Tickets can be <br />obtained by calling Superintendent Dennis Allen's office. <br />2) On April 14, patrolman Wayne Wozniak was sworn in as a sergeant in the North <br />Olmsted Police Department. <br />3) Ameritech has regt~sted a rate structure change from the Public Utilities <br />Commission of Ohio. Several consumer groups are requesting that city councils <br />pass resolutions opposing an alternative regulation plan. The Mayor suggests <br />that before Council passes such a resolution a meeting with both sides take place <br />to get a clear understanding of the issues. <br />4) Will meet with a representative of Browning-Ferris Industries tomorrow to <br />discuss recycling for multi-family residences. Hopefully, this program will go <br />into effect at the beginning of May. <br />5) Interviews for the Data Processing Department were conducted last wseek. The <br />IDP Department will begin full operations in May. Because of a lack of office <br />space in City Hall, the back caucus room will be converted to an office for this <br />department. <br />Law Director Gareau reported: 1) 'The city has been ordered by the Court of <br />Appeals to come up with new stipulations with regard to the case involving fire- <br />fighter Capt. Smith. The Law Department had submitted stipulations with regard <br />to the issue of vacation time for part-time employees. However, counsel for the <br />firefighters' union refused to go slang with those stipulations. The court <br />ordered that, if we do not stipulate, a fact finder will be appointed at a cost <br />to the city of $700 a day. The Law Department will submit new stipulations so <br />that this issue can be resolved and the Court of Appeals can issue a final <br />ruling. <br />2) Council will meet in executive session to discuss the Boehmer litigation. <br /> <br />
