MINUTES OF THE MEETING OF THE COUNCIL <br />OF THE CITY OF NORTH OLMSTID <br />MARCH 2, 1993 <br />Present: Council President BoetBner, Council Members Bahas, Leonard, Lind, <br />McKay, Musial, Nashar, Saringer <br />Also Present: Mayor Ed Boyle, Law Director Michael Gareau, Finance Director <br />James Burns, Acting Clerk Kim McFarland <br />Council President Boehmex called the meeting to order at 8:01 p.m. in Council <br />Chambers, 5200 Dover Center Road, North Olmsted, Ohio. <br />Members of the audience were invited to join Council in reciting the Pledge of <br />Allegiance to the Flag. <br />President Boel~r announced that Ordinance Nos. 93-28 and 93-29 would be added to <br />the agenda. Also, Ordinance Nos. 93-16, 93-17 and 93-29 would be passed under <br />suspension of the rules. <br />Mayor Boyle reported: 1) March is American Red Cross Month, and the city is <br />recognizing the occasioa~ with a proclamation. A representative fran the Red <br />Cross was not able to attend the meeting; however,. the proclamation will be <br />presented at a later date. <br />2) The Human Resources Department will hold a benefit play, Run for Ycyur Wife <br />at the Beck Center on Friday, March 5, at 8 p.m. Tickets are can be <br />obtained by called Human Resources Director Don Copeland at City Ha11. <br />3) The recent cutbacks to ILL have resulted in an approximate 12X decrease in <br />service. During the past several weeks, the administration and union representa- <br />tives have met to discu~as ways to trim approximately $300,000 from tYie N(L <br />budget. Eight part-time and six full-time employees have been ratified that they <br />are being laid off as of March 14. The administration and union met to be sure <br />that the layoffs were done in compliance with the procedure specified in the <br />contract. According to the union contract, call-backs will be done by seniority <br />in each job category. <br />4) 'The City Records Commission met on Thursday, February 25, and will institute a <br />city-wide inventory of records. Each department will be asked to review records <br />that are in storage and present the Records Ccxnmissicm with an inventory and <br />approximate time frames for destruction. The State of Ohio does provide guide- <br />lines for records destruction, and the Commission will review these procedures. <br />Once a program is set, the city will have a regular system for destruction of <br />records aixl much needed storage space will be available. <br />5) The Cable Advisory Board met on Thursday, February 25. Negotiations with V- <br />Cable will begin next month. Anyone who has input for these negotiations should <br />contact Safety Director Gundy or Personnel & Administrative Director Wilamosky. <br />6) The city Service Department did an excellent job of keeping city streets clear <br />during the recent snow storms. In addition, employees from the Wastewater Treat- <br />ment Plant and Recreation Department stepped in to help out when the Service <br />Department employees were exhausted after working 16+ hour shifts. The city has <br />received quite a few phone calls commending the snow removal efforts. <br />~~~ d, <br />
