MINUTES OF THE MEETIl~tG OF THE COUNCIL <br />OF THE CITY OF NORTH OLMSTEH <br />NOVEMBER 1,1994 <br />Present: Council President Boehmer, Council Members Bahas, Limpert, Lind, <br />Musial, Nashar, Saringer <br />Also Present: Mayor Boyle, Finance Director Burns, Clerk of Council Seman <br />Absent: Council Member McKay <br />Council President Boehmer called the meeting to order at 8:01 p.m in Council Chambers, <br />5200 Dover Center Road, North Ohn~ed, Ohio. <br />Members of the audience were invited to join Council in reciting the Pledge of Allegiance <br />to the Flag. <br />The minutes of the meeting of October 18, 1994 were approved as written. <br />i <br />Mayor Boyle reported: 1) The Secretary of State has issued a synopsas of the four State <br />issues on the ballot November 8: Is~:e I would eliminate review of death penshy cases by <br />the District Court of Appeals and provide for review directly by the S~reme Court. <br />Issue II will give the victim of a crone the saw standing and protection under the State <br />Constitution as is given to the accused. Issue III would require that tuition credos paid <br />from the Ohio Tuition Trust Fund be supported by the fill faith and credit of the State of <br />Ohio, and the General Assembly would be required to appropriate monies to offset any <br />deficits in the Ohio Tuition Trust Fund. Issue N would eliminate the one cent tax on soft <br />drink bottles. <br />2) Pofice Officer Gary Strelou is retiring from the force this month. Officer Streiou has <br />served the city for 15 years and is one of the forest officers on the force. <br />3) The EDP Department has completed the task of getting the AS/400 computer on-line in <br />the Finance Department. The EDP Department wdl now begun work on the queries <br />program which will extract information from the data base and produce various types of <br />reports appropriate for use by individual departments. <br />4) The Attorney General has stated that the open records law currently being considered <br />in the General Assembly wdl not be passed because the legislation contains a nuniner of <br />flaws. As drafted, this particular legislation would put undue hardships on ~micipalities. <br />The Attorney General has offered to meet with municipalities to discuss this issue. <br />5) Congratulations to Jay Power, president of Firefighters Local 1267, who has been <br />appointed third district vice-president of the Ohio Association of Professional Firefighters. <br />t <br />
