Council Minutes of 5/17/94 <br />Mayor Boyle presented Scout Eric Jones with a proclamation in recognition of his <br />achievement of the Eagle Scout Award in Boy Scouting. Eric was congratulated by all <br />present. <br />Mayor Boyle reported: 1) The week of May 22 will be Poppy Week, and the profits from <br />the sale will benefit charities ~capcaorecl by the Veterans of Foreign Wars. <br />2) For the first quarter of this year, the Police Departmeflt reports that traffic accidents <br />are down by 7; assaults are down; auto the$s are down; trial ' E reports and <br />arrests are down; suspicious peraons are down by 64; DWI arrests are down by 3 L These <br />satisfactory results are due to hard work by the departm~t. <br />3) We have sent a contract proposal to RTA but have not yet received a reply. <br />4) May 16 through May 20 is Try Trama3it Week, and NOMBL will be cellrating with <br />various promotions such as a flee faire day and adress-down day. NQ1i~fBL is providing <br />fast, efficient service to Jacob's F~kl. Anyone wishing to attend an s game at <br />Jacob's field can board a bus near Clti Chi's parking lot and be downtown in twenty <br />minutes. RTA has announced that the North Olmsted Municipal Bus Line has experiences <br />a 14.57% ridership increase over the first quarter of 1993. Also, 40 of 44 NO14~L <br />drivers have earned the Safe Driver Award which was given to drivers without a <br />chargeable accident in 1993. <br />5) The Department of Personnel and Administrative Services, continuing with a program <br />offered for the past five years, has notified 771 North Olnnsted ruts of unclaimed <br />funds held for them by the State of Ohio. <br />6) The city has experienced pr relating to the use of inferior cement by contractors. <br />These problems are shared by many cities andmdividuaLs throughout the county. <br />However, our Building and Engitteer~g Departments have been handling the problems in <br />a professional manner. Resklents who are having cement problems show contact the city <br />and the State Attorney General's office. <br />7) Cablevision will soon begs to charge for the Sports Channel; however, the Movie <br />Channel cost will be reduced to 57.50 from $10.45. <br />Mr. Nashar commented that several re~dents in Cambridge Crossings have had cement <br />problems. He has advised them to notify City Hall and to write a formal letter of <br />complaint to the Attorney General's office. The Mayor said that the city will keep records <br />of such complaints, .and this will prevent us from using a bad contractor on a major street. <br />Mr. McKay said that, if a homeowner files a lawsuit individually, it can be very expensive <br />since core samples are needed as proof He is suggesting to residents that they contact the <br />Attorney General in order to be included in the class action suit that is being considered. <br />Mr. Lmd commented for the record that he had received extraordinary cooperation from <br />NOMBL during his confinement to a wheelchair the past two weeks. He will write a <br />formal letter of recognition to the NOMBL management and drivers. Mayor Boyle agreed <br />that NOMBL was very accommotlaating to residents with transit problems. Any residents <br />that have transportation probhyms can contact NOMBL or the Human Resources <br />Department which provides van service to seniors and disabled people. <br />2 <br /> <br />
