Council Minutes of 4/19/94 <br />Tom Schmitz, 5414 Decker Road, spoke against the location of an abortion clinic in North <br />~, Olmsted. Mr. Schmitz is dressed because the Supreme Court does not seem to listen to <br />the people who do not want abortions performed in the United States. He hopes that the <br />law will be changed. <br />Florence Jean Burns, 3978 Dover Center Road, wanted to file a complaint aga~st the <br />Recreation Center. On doctor's orders, Mrs. Burns must swim on a daily basis. <br />However, when she tried to swim at the Rec Center pool, ~e was turned away because <br />lap swimmers were using two-thirds of the pool It was suggested that she swim at the <br />Crocker Road Holiday Imi pool m Westlake. Mrs. Burns noted that there were ten <br />employees watching only eight lap sw~aners. bast fall when Mrs. Burns was swimaming <br />with a 13 year old guest, she was asked to leave at 9 p.m. When she called the next day to <br />complain, a Rec Center employee cha~ised her for having a 13 year old out at 9 p.m; and <br />the employee hung up on Mrs. Burns rather than identify herself <br />Mayor Boyle thanked Mrs. Burns for her comments and promised to look into the matter. <br />John Good, a Westlake resident, is also concerned about an abortion clinic locating on the <br />west side. He noted that Preterm must vacate their east side location by June l; therefore, <br />even though this one particular location did not work out, they are probably dill look~g in <br />this area. <br />Mayor Boyle agreed that Preterm may indeed still locate somewhere on the west side. He <br />again stated that this type of facility would not locate here if there wasn't a market. As <br />parents and citizens, we must begs educating our children so that the market is eventually <br />destroyed. <br />Mrs. Bahas sugge~ed that as concerned citizens and parents we should also boycott the <br />types of movies and television shows that promote immorality. <br />Mr. McKay said he believed we need to elect officials who take a stand against abortion. <br />Robert Strnad, 4861 Porter Road, said he felt the abortion issue should be litigated <br />without bias or prejudice for those whom it will affect. <br />Margaret McKay, 5197 Cohunbia Road, is also very concerned about the abortion issue. <br />She feels that a holocaust is taking place in our country everyday. As many other people <br />have done, Mrs. McKay has fought against abortion for many years. She hopes that <br />everyone will pray for the end of this problem <br />As a closing thought, Mr. Gareau said it was interesting to note that both sides of the <br />abortion issue use the Fourteenth Amendment as the basis for their arguments. <br />:~"~ <br />w <br />6 <br /> <br />
