This past Friday was the last day of work here for Police
Ghief Dennis Sefcek. We worked together for a tong time
and achieved quite a bit. While I look forward to our new
Chief, who will be named soon, I am really going to miss
Dennis: His calm logic mixed with an excitable personality
will be impossible to forget. North Olmsted has been very
lucky. to have had him aboard and we will reap the benefits of
those years for a long time to come.
Our new Chief will be Captain Frank Viola (no relation to the
former Boston Red Sox pitcher) and he will be sworn in on
Wednesday, July 5th at 9:00 a.m. He will also be in
attendance at that nights Council meeting to meet with you
and answer any of your concerns.
The Chief's Assessment Exam was given on June 3, 1995
with Captains Viola and Ruple the only eligable candidates. I
am very proud to say that only 3 points sepperated the two.
This is a tribute to them, former Chief Sefcek, our Police
Department and you. We have a very intelligent force and
you have honored your commitment to insure they are
trained properly. Also the type of testing you and I agreed on
many years ago is paying off because the two Captains were
promoted to their current positions based on the results of
that testing. (For those new Council representatives the
Administration proposed and Council accepted a testing
proceedure that blended written and ora! examiniations with
independent evaluations.)
The Department of Justice has sent us all the paperwork for
the COPS FAST award. Before he left Chief Sefcek and
