Council Minutes of 3/21/95
.~~ to hold the legislation on the street projects until the amount of the borrowing could be
,;~ determined. That is where the matter stands at present.
William Hayes, 23986 Ambour Drive, spoke on the need for repair of the street. Mr.
Hayes was disgruntled because Mr. Lmd was ill and could not attend the meeting. Since
Mr. Lind was not in attendance, he wanted to speak for Ambour Drive. He feels the street
is a disgrace. However, he is happy about the work done on the sewers and he credits Mr.
Bohlmann for that work. Mr. Hayes, alife-long Democrat, feels neglected by this
administration. He said that Mr. Lind told him,. of the streets on the list for this year,
Alexander was first because of a "government deal" and Ambour was second. Mr. Hayes
said that Mr. Lind promised to push for the completion of Ambour Drive. Mayor Boyle
said he was not aware that was a plan adopted by Council, but the county is working on
the sewers on Claque Road, which does mesh with the work on Alexander Road. Mr.
Hayes continued by saying, `most of the streets done happen to be where a Councilman
lives." Mr. Limpert said that Berkshire Drive and other streets where Council Members
live had not been done. Mayor Boyle commented that Mr. Hayes' statements up to this
point had been true, but that statement was not true. Mr. Nashar commented that early
this year Mr. Lind had made it clear what streets in his Ward needed to be repaired. He
also stated that a good majority of the work done in the past couple of years has been
done in Ward II. Although Mr. Lind did push to get the streets done, when Council was
advised of the financial situation, the street program was put on hold. Until Council gets
the green light again, he does not think it possible for any Council Member to say that
Ambour Drive will be done.
Rick Fetterman, 23932 Ambour Drive, is a new resident to the street and had been led to
believe that the street would be taken care of this year. He said had he known City
Council is prone to side-stepping responsibilities, he would have spent his tax dollars in
another city.
Mr. McKay commented that, as a member of this Council, he had never side-stepped any
responsibilities nor had he ever said anything he did not think was true nor had he made
any promises that he did not think he could keep. He shared some background
information on the street repair program with Mr. Fetterman: Prior to the present
administration, there was no street repair program in the city at all. Over the years, he
witnessed many residents coming before Council to complain about their streets--some
people actually threw chunks of concrete at Council's feet. It took this administration to
put a street repair program into effect. That program was meant to address all the streets
in the city over afifteen-year period. The program has been in effect for only five years,
and the number of repaired streets is far ahead of schedule.
Bob Frindt, 4084 Claque Road, wanted to know if the plans for the Claque Road
widening/repositioning had been completed by the county. Mr. Frindt does have drawings
of plans done several years ago, and some of the plans are very detrimental to some of the
property owners. Mr. Frindt and his neighbors would like an opportunity to review the
"'~' plans before finalization so that they can have some input. The residents do have a
.,
8
