If this should occur, <br />then the C.RI.S. system will cease to exist, which would cause a dangerous situation to <br />police officers and residents. <br />5) Interviews for the position of Recreation Commissioner are continuing, and a decision <br />should be made soon. <br />6) Names of appointees to various boards and commissions, including the Charter Review <br />Commission, will be presented to Council at the next meeting. <br />7) The appropriations legislation is under preparation and will be available prior to the <br />next Council meeting. However, the problems with the C.RI.S. program may prompt an <br />amendment at some later time. <br />8) The Mayor attended the U. S. Conference of Mayors in Washington, D. C. recently and <br />had the opportunity to meet with Congressman Sherrod Brown and Kent Marcus, the <br />Deputy Associate Attorney General. The discussion with Congressman Brown concerned <br />economic development. Information from Mr. Marcus concerning funding for safety <br />projects led the Mayor to believe the city's grant application for three police officers had a <br />good chance of being accepted. Police Chief Sefcek notified the Mayor today that <br />President Clinton will soon announce the recipients of the COPS Grants, and the City of <br />North Olmsted will receive fimding for two officers. <br />Councilman Nashar asked Mayor Boyle if the city was under a time constraint as to <br />making the decision on funding the mounding for Steams Road. Mayor Boyle said that he <br />believed the decision had to be made in February, but he would check into it and notify <br />Mr. Nashar so that Council would have time to discuss it in committee before the next <br />meeting. <br />Law Director Gareau: 1) The Eliza Jennings case was heard in the Court of Appeals, and <br />he anticipates a decision within the month. <br />2) Several months ago, a North Olmsted police officer was injured at Slam Jam's while <br />making an arrest. The officer filed a lawsuit against the person who was arrested. That <br />person in turn filed an action against the City of North Ohnsted. However, the insurance <br />company has resolved the issue. <br />3) The ballot language for the Township annexation issue has been approved. <br />Finance Director Burns: 1) The yearly report from the Rocky River Court shows <br />revenues of $916,496 and expenses of $879,633. This is the second consecutive year that <br />the court has shown a profit, which means that the city will not have to fund any costs. <br />2) The city will provide $52,000 to the school board as its share of the Moen income tax. <br />3) The City of Fairview Park has paid one of two delinquent bills. <br />4) The Finance Department has completed work on last year's accounts and is in the <br />process of finalizing an adjusted amended certificate. This information will be used by <br />City Council and the Administration during preparation of the yearly appropriations. <br />In answer to a question from Mayor Boyle about the amount of taxes collected from <br />Moen, Mr. Burns stated that the $52,000 represents approximately 15% of the anticipated <br />collection for 1995. <br />2 <br />i <br />
