Council Minutes of S/5/97
$9,800 for carpeting of the entire executive wing, including the Clerk's oiI•ice. These
funds were in the appropriations as passed in April.
c. The final item on the agenda was discussion of the lawsuit filed by the City of Rocky
River. At issue is the payment of North Olmsted's portion of the 1996 deficit incurred by
Rocky River Municipal Court. Finance Director Burns feels very strongly that prior years'
operating surpluses should have been utilized to absorb that deficit. Such was not the
case--the surpluses were, in fact, placed into the General Fund of the City of Rocky River.
At this point, the Finance Committee adjourned into executive session at 7:40 p.m. The
meeting was reconvened and subsequently adjourned at 8:15 p.m.
Mr. O'Grady, Chairperson of the Intra-Governmental Relations and Legislation; Long-
Range Planning Committee: 1) A public hearing regarding Ordinance 97-57 will be held
at 7 p.m. on Tuesday, August 19. This ordinance involves changing the requirement that
swimming pools have 6 feet barriers. The legislation sets the required minimum at 4 feet
and the maximum at 6 feet.
LETTERS & COMMUNICATIONS
The following letter was read into the record at the request of the sender: "Dear Council
Members: I would like to thank David Lind of Ward 2 for informing me of some of the
programs the City of North Olmsted offers to its residents free of charge. This summer I
was able to take advantage of two of these programs. The first one was the Wood Chip
Program and the second was the replacement of our Sanitary T when the drains were
backing up into our home. In both cases, I found the city employees to be very courteous
and helpful; especially Mr. Binggeli of the Waste Water Treatment Plant. At a time when
it seems more fashionable to complain about our city, I say thank you to Mr. Lind and the
City of North Olmsted for a job well-done. Sincerely, Cathleen Grabowski" A copy of
the letter has been given to Mr. Binggeli and Public Works Commissioner Cammarato.
AUDIENCE PARTICIPATION
Lou Damiani, 1725 Midland Building, 101 Prospect Avenue West, Cleveland, OH. Mr.
Damiana represents the owners of Great Northern Mall and the mall property management
group. He said that his clients are willing to work with the Council committee that will
discuss Ordinance 97-66, an ordinance which seeks to establish a video surveillance
section of the Codified Ordinances. They are concerned about safety for obvious reasons.
They wish to work with Council, the Mayor and the committee but do have some
concerns which they would like to address.

6
