`~ a
,~, MINUTES OF THE SPECIAL MEETING OF THE COUNCIL
,~ OF THE CITY OF NORTH OLMSTED
JULY 1, 1997
Present: Council President Boehmer, Council Members Limpert, McKay, Musial,
Nashar, O'Grady, Saringer
Also Present: Finance Director Burns, Clerk of Council Seman
Absent: Council Member Lind
Council President Boehmer called the special meeting to order at 7:15 p.m. in Council
Chambers, 5200 Dover Center Road, North Olmsted, Ohio.
BZD REPORT
Mr. Musial, Chairperson of the Building, Zoning and Development Committee: 1) The
committee met on June 23. Present were committee members McKay and Musial,
Building Commissioner Conway and Assistant Engineer McDermott. The following
agenda items were discussed:
a. A proposal by Developer's Diversified Realty corporation/Great Northern Limited
Partnership to modify storefronts in Great Northern Shopping Center from Bruegger's
Bagel Bakery to Plus Sizes and over to the license bureaus as Phase 1. Present from
Developer's Diversified were Gregory Barrow, representing the new owners, and Jerry
Herschman, architect for the project. The crux of the proposal is a much more modern
approach to renovating a shopping center as landscaping will be incorporated across the
front. Further, the stores will have different elevations and formats so as to eliminate a
monotonous straight-line effect. The larger stores will have porticos and no extension of
the canopies across the fronts. The gray colored concrete sidewalks will be replaced with
beige/brown earthtone colored walkways. A letter expressing concern about the colored
sidewalks and lack of a continuous awning to shelter joggers was sent to the ARB but was
inadvertently not considered. However, the letter was sent to Developer's Diversified for
consideration. Upon review, they felt that their original concept should stay intact. (At
this point, Mr. Musial distributed the plans for Council's review.) The Planning
Commission approved the proposal on June 10, and the Architectural Review Board
approved it on June 18. The BZD Committee approved the proposal subject to the
developer complying with requirements of the Engineering Department, including a
sanitary/storm layout. Mr. Musial moved that Council approve the proposal subject to
the developer complying with the requirements of the Engineering Department, including
a sanitary/storm layout. The motion was seconded by Mr. McKay and unanimously
approved.
