NASA personnel have a history of
becoming involved in community activities such as Scouting and athletics. In addition,
most of them are highly educated and earn high incomes so they are a substantial
contributor to the economic well being of the Westshore cities. There have been many
attempts to close and reduce the complement of NASA facilities, thereby reducing the
number of such highly talented individuals living in our Westshore communities. As a
matter of information, and so as to create a coalition of common interests, he invited
representatives of the Lewis Engineers and Scientists Association Union to speak to the
Westshore Council of Governments to explain what the cities can do to stand in the way
of any future cuts in staff or programs at NASA Lewis Research Center. The comments
are being taken into consideration by the other mayors.
4) Gary Hannum, Data Processing Commissioner, has been working on the Y2K problem
with the assurance that the city will be year 2000 compliant.
