Council Minutes of 6/16/98
Instead of telling us we are doing a good job, please answer these questions and tell us
what each of you are going to do to make a solution a reality. We ask each of you to
whom this letter is addressed, to please respond to the questions above by mail or phone.
Sincerely, Cathy Troyer, President, West Park-Forest Ridge Civic Association, 28800
Berkshire Drive."
Tim Smith, 5733 Elmhurst Road, spoke at the last Council meeting and still has not
received any communication with regard to the start date for the project in his
neighborhood. From what he understood, this project would eliminate the flooding in
Forest Ridge. At the last meeting, the Mayor said he did not know anything about this
project. However, there was an article in the newspaper, there was a petition on his desk
and there was a copy of a letter on his desk. He is concerned because there still has been
no communication, and Mr. Nashar had promised that a letter would be sent out in two
weeks. Mr. Smith is also concerned about the damage done to his front yard by the gas
company. He understands that it is the gas company's problem, but that problem
wouldn't have been there if the city would have done a proper job. (Mr. Smith distributed
pictures of his yard.) Mr. Nashar commented that he had spoken to Mr. Bohlmann and
had been told that the letter was being prepared. Regarding the damage to the front yard,
the city will repair the lawn once the gas company repairs the damage to the pipe. Mayor
Musial said he could empathize with Mr. Smith and would ask Mr. Bohlmann to address
his questions. Regarding Mr. Smith's comments about his not knowing about the details
of the project, he believes that Mr. Smith is aware of how the city operates wherein the
details of the operation are in the hands of the director that is responsible. He does rely
upon the directors to follow through on projects. He has to assume that Mr. Bohlmann
did follow through. He does agree that Mr. Smith should be informed. Mr. Bohlmann
came forward and said that the letter is on his desk ready to go out. The reason he has not
sent it out is that he always sends the letters out about a week prior to the commencement
of construction. The date that grinding of the street is to begin is June 24, weather
permitting. The letter will be sent out this week. As far as Mr. Smith's lawn is concerned,
it is indeed the East Ohio Gas Company's responsibility. However, he had it scheduled to
be repaired this week. Unfortunately, the storm over the weekend has kept his forestry
crew working 12 hours a day in an effort to get the city cleaned up. As soon as that work
is completed, the city crews will take care of Mr. Smith's lawn. He does not plan to wait
for the East Ohio Gas Company to do it.
LEGISLATION
Ordinance No. 98-37 introduced by Mayor Musial was given its third reading. An
ordinance authorizing the Mayor of the City of North Olmsted to enter into leases with
Cablevision of the Midwest, Inc., and Northern Ohio Interconnect, Inc., for the purpose of
renewing and entering into new leases of certain lands owned by the City of North
Olmsted at the Recreation Center Complex and used in connection with the Cablevision
cable television franchise, and declaring an emergency. Mrs. Kasler moved for adoption;
"~ second by Mr. Limpert; motion passed unanimously. Ordinance No. 98-37 adopted.
~,
10
