Council Minutes of 5/19/98
Resolution No. 98-58 was introduced and placed on first reading by Mr. McKay. A
4,~, resolution authorizing the Director of Public Service to advertise for bids for replacement
of Culvert No. 5 on Barton Road in the City of North Olmsted as detailed in the
specifications on file and authorizing the Mayor to contract for the same, and declaring an
emergency.
Ordinance No. 98-59 was introduced and placed on first reading by Mayor Musial. An
ordinance authorizing the Mayor of the City of North Olmsted to enter into a lease with
International Discount Golf, Inc., for the purpose of operating a golf pro shop at
Springvale Golf Course, and declaring an emergency.
Ordinance No. 98-60 was introduced and placed on first reading by Mr. McKay. An
emergency ordinance enacted by the City of North Olmsted, Cuyahoga County, Ohio,
hereinafter referred to as the Municipality, in the matter of the hereinafter described
improvement and requests the cooperation of the County of Cuyahoga by its Board of
County Commissioners, hereinafter referred to as the County. (Replacement of Barton
Road Culvert No. 5)
MISCELLANEOUS BUSINESS
Mr. Nashar reported that the volunteer gun turn-in program he had proposed was very
successful on the first collection day of May 16. Ten hand guns and five rifles were
collected. He feels that the residents who turned in guns and ammunition to the Police
Department helped make our community a safer place for our children. Residents who
have guns in their homes should keep them locked up in a separate location from the
ammunition. This coming Saturday, May 23, the police will be collecting guns once again
from the hours of 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. His offer still applies: Anyone turning in a gun will
receive a $10 food gift certificate from Rini-Rego at Great Northern Boulevard and a
$29.95 oil change coupon from Great Northern Dodge. He also recognized Mark Halleen
from Halleen Chevrolet who contributed ten $10 gift certificates from Rini-Rego to help
support this program.. At the end of the collection period, all guns will be scrapped and
melted down. His sincere thanks to everyone who helped to make this program a success
especially the Sun News, the Westlife, the Chronicle and the Plain Dealer. He encourages
other suburbs to do the same thing.
Mrs. Saringer commended Mr. Nashar for having the foresight to institute this and feels
the safety forces are thankful. After all, it is one less gun they have to face.
Mr. Miller also commended Mr. Nashar for his efforts and said that the police officers
were pleased that they had gotten this many guns off the street. On another matter, Mr.
Miller commented that he had spoken to Mr. Lynch, Westlake Law Director, about the
dam in Ehle Ditch. Mr. Lynch was very receptive and open to addressing the problem. He
contacted his Service Director right away, and the Service Director also seemed very
willing to help address the problem. That information has been relayed to Mr. Bohlmann,
~' and Mr. Bohlmann and the Westlake Service Director are now addressing that issue.
12
