Council Minutes of 5/6/98
which is digging up and replacing storage tanks. The nature of the work seems to be
,> dissimilar because one is refurbishing and creating and another is tearing down. Also, she
feels that the extra expenses that may be incurred are certainly outweighed by the ability of
Council to live up to their obligation of monitoring spending and having control over the
issue.
Mr. Gareau informed Council that he would be attending a planning and zoning seminar in
Albuquerque, New Mexico the week of June 7. He hopes to update and supplement what
he learned at Ohio State when he studied city and regional planning and looks forward to
implementing what he has learned through the BZD Committee.
Mrs. Kasler, Chairperson of the Recreation Committee: 1) The committee met on April
28 and in attendance were Council members Kasler, Limpert, O'Grady, Nashar, Miller and
Mayor Musial. On the agenda was Ordinance 98-37, which deals with authorizing the
Mayor to enter into a lease agreement with Cablevision. This lease is a renewal for leasing
land and office space located on Recreation Center property. At the request of the
administration, due to the need to finalize certain terms of the agreement, the committee
unanimously voted to hold this ordinance in committee until such time as the agreement is
completed for Council's final review.
Mayor Musial: 1) He apologized for being late, but he had made a prior commitment to
be at the North Olmsted High School Rite of Spring Festival of the Arts. He felt it was
important to indicate to the school system that the administration is interested with regards
to the schools and will continue to be so to its utmost.
2) The All Nations Festival was held last month. More than thirty individuals took the
oath to abide by the Constitution of the United States. Judge Perlman gave them two
oaths: one as prescribed by the law and one which he created himself reflecting today's
environment. He thanked Councilmen Dean McKay and George Nashar for being present,
along with Carrie Copfer our Finance Director and Jan Popa our Personnel Director.
(Councilwoman Janet Saringer was also in attendance.) Also, thanks to Greg Birney of
the North Olmsted school system and Don Copeland, our Human Resources Director, for
all the time they put into this event.
3) He made an inspection tour of the Bridgeport Development after receiving complaints
about the elevation of the homes. He has called attention to this situation to the
Engineering Department and the Planning Commission. The problem is that the
foundations of the homes seem to be too high in relation to the existing homes in the area.
4) As part of his continuing efforts to open up the communication of the activities of the
city, he has invited the press to attend Board of Control meetings. The next one will be
held tomorrow in his conference room at 8:30 a.m.
5) Today he placed in each Councilperson's mailbox a copy of several different cost
scenarios regarding the underground lighting in North Olmsted Park.
6) Springvale is having a Mother's Day brunch. The price is $14.95 for adults and $6.95
for children.
7) He met with Ron Tober, the CEO of RTA, in regards to a new bus garage being
constructed in North Olmsted and apark-and-ride site in North Olmsted.
