Council Minutes of 4/7/98
• Hot Stove will provide funding and will spend no more than $2,000 for the purchase
and planting of approximately 15 to 20 four foot high Blue Spruce or White Pine trees
to be planted along the rear lot line of the Schultz and Koziol properties. The trees
will be on the Koziol and Schultz property and will screen the ball field from property
owners. The exact type, number and planting locations are to be determined and
decided between the Schultz and Koziol households and Hot Stove officials.
With these requirements being satisfied, the Birch ball diamond shall be a permanent use.
Mr. Gareau so moved. Mr. McKay added to the motion that all permits will be paid for
by Hot Stove. Mr. Gareau agreed to that stipulation. The motion was seconded by Mr.
McKay and unanimously passed.
Mrs. Kasler, Chairperson of the Recreation Committee: 1) She attended the Recreation
Commission meeting on March 25. The following items were discussed:
• Mr. Evangelista from Dover Players attended the meeting with a renewed request for a
more permanent theater facility somewhere in the city. Presently Dover Players are
housed in a tent on the east end of the Rec Center for summer use only. Dover
Players will fund renovation of any available suitable facility. Several suggested sites
and solutions were reviewed with the most plausible being the possibility of Springvale
and/or a facility agreement with the North Olmsted Schools. Mr. Evangelista will
research these avenues.
• Ice rink renovations were discussed with members of figure skating and hockey club
present. Funding was discussed for the proposed roof renovations and HVAC
replacements were discussed at this time with questions of funding being a major issue
and an energy conservation study being outstanding. Members of the administration
stated that project confirmation and time lines would be prepared by the next meeting
for both clubs to allow them time to secure ice time at another facility should repairs
not be completed by August. Engineering proposals were solicited in late 1997 by the
Rec Commissioner and his review team presented their recommended firm proposal to
the Engineering Department in January.
The commission was presented with requests from various community groups for
additional recreation facilities such as basketball courts, baseball fields and tennis
courts. The commission stated a need to know about available funding prior to
making decisions on those projects. Mayor Musial suggested that the commission
develop a strategic plan for projects.
• Hot Stove baseball representatives attended the meeting to present an overview of
their organization which is run by an elected executive board. As of March 24, 560
players have registered to play Hot Stove baseball this season. In 1997, this
organization committed over $25,000 to building two new fields and improving other
fields throughout the city. Fund raising efforts by the players contributed to this effort.
In 1998 a direct contribution from the involved families will see to it that a
commitment by the organization is received of over $10,000 for new diamond three
and also additional funding for improvements and accommodations on other park
`~ ' properties. All commission members were invited to attend opening day for Hot
:a;:.
7
