MINUTES OF THE MEETING OF THE COUNCIL .~~. OF THE CITY OF NORTH OLMSTED MARCH 18, 1998 Present: Council President Saringer, Council Members Gareau, Kasler, Limpert, McKay, Miller, Nashar, O'Grady Also Present: Mayor Musial, Law Director Gareau, Finance Director Copfer, Clerk of Council Seman Council President Saringer called the meeting to order at 8 p.m. in Council Chambers, 5200 Dover Center Road, North Olmsted, Ohio. Members of the audience were invited to join Council in reciting the Pledge of Allegiance to the Flag. The minutes of the Council meeting of March 3, 1998 were approved as written. Council President Saringer thanked everyone for the flowers, visits and prayers during her recent recuperation from an automobile accident. All the good wishes were very helpful, and she is glad to be back. Council President Saringer announced that a special Council meeting would be held on Monday, March 30, at 6 p.m. to pass the appropriations, Ordinance 98-16. REPORTS Mayor Musial: 1) Congressman Dennis Kucinich visited City Hall this week and spoke at a director's meeting. It was a very enlightening and interesting discussion comparing his days of Congress and our days here in the city. He left with the promise to maximize any help that he can provide to the city in terms of federal grants and the like. Law Director Gareau: 1) A claim filed by an individual who was injured by falling into a hole in a street was turned over to the insurance counsel. A motion for summary judgment was filed, and it has been granted on behalf of the city on the basis of governmental immunity since we did not have notice. This is an important issue because the city has a $30,000 deductible, and any amount that is paid out on claims comes out of the funds that are set aside in the casualty loss fund. 2) Recently he has been requested to give two rulings regarding the Civil Service Commission and promotional tests regarding a service credit that was to be given to those who took the promotional test. 3) Assistant Law Director Dubelko met today with the administration and representatives `~" from Duke Realty regarding tax abatement.
