Council Minutes of 12/7/1999
above a skatepark? If other sporting facilities are needed, those who advocate them work
' ' as diligently as Rae Ann Thomas has put to get them. It has been my observation that
'~"~' instead of applauding Mrs. Thomas' initiative, some members of Council have set up
roadblocks in her path. I think North Olmsted needs more proactive citizens like Mrs.
Thomas and that Council should extend their wholehearted support to her project.
Recently the Cheers & Jeers column in the Cleveland Plain Dealer recognized Mrs.
Thomas and Mrs. Creadon for their tireless efforts to obtain this skatepark for North
Olmsted. Yet their own City Council doesn't seem to appreciate their dedicated efforts.
My observations are given as a citizen who has no children or grandchildren who will
benefit from the park but has become aware of the Herculean effort of Mrs. Thomas
while attending Council meetings due to the interest in the proposed RTA Park-and-Ride.
Thank you for my consideration of my comments. Sincerely yours, Barbara Meder"
Mrs. Saringer commented that Council is not setting up roadblocks and they appreciate
the work that she has done. Mr. O'Grady said he wholeheartedly concurred with the
content of the letter and that the city absolutely needs more proactive citizens like Mrs.
Thomas. Mr. Limpert said, while citizens are being thanked, he would also like to
recognize the members of the Hockey Club who provided plexi-glass for the ice skating
rink.
Mary Creadon, 6820 Chadbourne, commented that she had a brief discussion with the
author of the letter (dated December 7) late this afternoon. She had said originally she
was going to be attending the meeting, and due to family circumstances, she would not be
able to attend the meeting. From a protocol standpoint, she wanted to know how she
could be supportive because she has participated in and donated to fund-raising activities.
Mrs. Creadon told her probably the best bet would be, at the late date and time of 3
o'clock, for her to send a letter to Council since it was going to be in front of Council this
evening. She provided the main fax line phone number; and, for whatever reason, it was
brought down to her office. She asked her daughter to deliver it to the Clerk's office.
Clerk of Council Barbara Seman responded that she had talked to the writer at 5 p.m. and
had been told the letter was sent to Mrs. Creadon as the writer had seen her name in the
paper and wanted her opinion as to whether it was a proper way to address the problem.
When she heard back from Mrs. Creadon, she would send it to the Clerk. She was
surprised that the Clerk had received the letter. She told the Clerk it would be all right to
copy the letter to Council.
LEGISLATION
Resolution No. 99-148 introduced by Mr. McKay was given its third reading. A
resolution authorizing the Director of Public Service to advertise for bids for drainage
improvements in the Barton Road and Chestnut School area as detailed in the plans and
specifications on file and authorizing the Mayor to contract for the same, and declaring
an emergency. Mr. McKay moved for adoption; second by Mr. Nashar; motion passed
unanimously. Resolution No. 99-148 adopted.
11
i I
