Council Minutes of 10/19/1999
President Saringer reconvened the Council meeting at 10:28 p.m.
Mrs. Saringer said she wished to discuss the situation that was occurring at Springvale
Golf Course. Mayor Musial said he believed Mrs. Kasler planned to address that issue in
a Recreation Committee meeting. Mrs. Kasler agreed that she planned to request a
committee meeting next week to discuss the situation and planned to invite the golfers to
attend. The issue is basically a change in policy with regard to permanent tee times and
league play and the finances of this. This issue involves people who have played at the
course for many years, possibly 20 or 30 years. Mrs. Saringer said it was her
understanding that it is not the people that have permanent tee times that are the abusers.
One group told her that they have players missing only 5% of the time. She was upset to
be told by golfers that they felt they had not been treated properly by the golf course
management. Mayor Musial said he could not respond to that because he was not there
for the discussion. However, he, Safety Director Jenkins and course manager Marty
Young checked "no shows" for 1998 and there was approximately $40,000 lost. He feels
the proper forum to discuss this matter is the Recreation Committee. Mrs. Saringer
agreed but said that she had promised the golfers that she would bring this issue up
tonight. Mr. McKay said he had the opportunity to meet with a group of senior citizens
and the course manager and there was no problem-he was very polite.
Mr. O'Grady scheduled a Finance Committee meeting for Monday, October 25, at 6 p.m.
to discuss Ordinances 99-143 and 99-145. The Finance Director and Service Director are
asked to attend.
Mr. Nashar scheduled a Safety Committee meeting, immediately following the Finance
Committee, for an open discussion of the proposed helmet law that was addressed at the
last Council meeting. The Safety Director is asked to attend.
Mrs. Kasler scheduled a Recreation Committee meeting to discuss the Springvale issue
on Monday, October 25, at 7 p.m. The Mayor, Mr. Jenkins and Mr. Young are asked to
attend.
Mr. Miller asked that Mr. Nashar add to his committee agenda a discussion of the impact
of the increase of the Lorain Road speed limit. Mr. Nashar agreed.
With the agenda being completed and there being no further business to come before
Council, President Saringer adjourned the meeting at 10:36 p.m.
,-'
i {{91
~:.~ ,
Barbara L.
